GOLDENSTONE & DUCKFOOT: More information please?

So far I've played with, experimented and done some pretty slick sharpening jobs with both my Spyderco Duckfoot and GOLDENSTONE sharpening tools with some very nice and interesting results. I was hoping that there would be some new information coming forth on these great tools by now. A video and/or printed information on the intended uses of both units would be nice.

It's been said that the GOLDENSTONE is supposed to more or less take the place of Spyderco's 701 Profile kit which has been discontinued for some time now unfortunately. Personally I'm not convinced that's the case especially when the GOLDENSTONE is only available in one grit. It would be really nice if they would make the GOLDENSTONE in more grits.

Now I heard some time back that Spyderco was working on some type of a base unit for using the GOLDENSTONE but I've not heard anymore about it since back early in the year. If any of you have any information on the GOLDENSTONE or know of any available I would appreciate it if you would share it with the rest of it.

Or if any of you have discovered any special uses for the units that would be nice to know as well. It's like the GOLDENSTONE is a carefully concealed secret more or less hidden in plain view. I'm not about to give up on it because I know it has huge potential. So anything any of you can share on either one of these units or any other Spyderco sharpening tool feel free to share it with us.

Hi JD, I posted this on another channel.

It's a work in progress still. We waiting on a part that will permit the Golden Stone and Duckfoot to fixture at 30 degrees. Then we'll make the Duckfoot again in CBN and provide it as a set with the Golden Stone. Don't know what to call it yet. Then the plan is to make a video showing the functions of the kit.

That develoment is concurrent with a Gauntlet sharpener, and a remake of the Galley V. We're also working on a "Double Stuff 2".

I carry and use my kit often. I often use the Golden Stone a a benchstone for sharpening my EDC's.

Mr. Glesser that is fantastic news!! And believe me I'll be buying all of them even if it means I'll be eating hot dogs for a while :D

Hey why not just call the new unit "DUCKFOOT 2"? or with all of this "Bigfoot" craze on many of the cable channels just call it the BIGFOOT :D You don't know how much I enjoy playing with those old GaLLEY V stones. I still think it's the best tool out there to sharpen the DODO model with. And as much as I like the DOUBLESTUFF you can do 3 or 4 different versions of that tool and I'll buy them all as well.

You know your sharpening tools Sir and I can't wait to test drive all of the new ones coming down the pipeline. I'll be counting the days ;)

I'm going to order my very first Goldenstone, I need something that I can use to sharpen serrated and plain edges on in a hurry. I won't have the luxury of using the Sharpmaker or anything else. I thought about the double stuff, but the Duckfoot came to mind. Call it the Golden Duck. ;)

I haven't had to break out the SM for a while now. Thanks to Mr. G.

I've been baffled for some time as to why the DUCKFOOT didn't catch on any better than it did  Because it's got just the right grit of diamond to really restore a dinged up edge. But I am looking forward to the new DF with CBN. This is indeed great news knowing that all of these tools are going to be done soon.

Yeah between the GOLDENSTONE, DUCKFOOT and DOUBLESTUFF they together are a great set of field sharpeners.

Maybe a bit impractical here but....It would be awesome if the Duckfoot has replaceable diamond rods. You buy the actual DUckfoot, and can change grits or replace worn out rods as needed. :)
I guess I'm getting a double stuff stone then too.

Yeah that would be a nice concept to have replaceable diamond rods for the Duckfoot unit. I had always wished that they would have made their 701 Profiles with diamond and Ultra-Fine. I still think the Spyderco 701 Profiles are just a great all around sharpening and deburring tool.

I'm not at all sorry that I got the GOLDENSTONE and I actually enjoy tinkering around with it. I've done a lot of experimenting with mine and got nice results on a lot of sharpening jobs. But again I will say they need to make that tool in more grits than just FINE IMO.

I'm so glad that Sal has updated us on the developments of their sharpening tools. I'm going to get a GAUNTLET even if I got to pay full flaming retail for it when it comes out.

I'm also wondering what else might be coming down the pipeline>> are there any manual tools like the 701 Profiles going to return maybe and in more grits? What about more grits in the GOLDENSTONE? More grit selections for the DUCKFOOT as well.

or are there any new specialty sharpening tools maybe and in what grit?

Hi JD,

We've got 2 more field sharpeners in-the-works.

Again Mr. Glesser I'll probably be eating hot dogs and bologna sandwiches for a while :o because I do plan on getting everything new you have coming down the product pipeline. Because between what I learned from you and also John Juranitch ( Razor Edge Systems) together pretty much got me started on my sharpening skills. I pretty much self taught myself on many of the tools like the 701 Profiles and the 204 Sharpmaker.

All of your new sharpening gear will be great for the knife community I'm sure of it. Because even the very best knife a person can buy is absolutly useless unless it is sharp enough to work with. And you give us great tools to sharpen with and we sincerely thank you for your great efforts.
