Hello all so just to pre warn this may be a rather long post.So to start I've been collecting knives for five years .Although I've been using them longer for work and hiking /camping I've only been into well made quality blade's for about five years.my collection runs the full spectrum a little of everything style and steel wise.I have numerous sharpening gadgets devices and stones andni use them in unconventional ways sometimes but I get snap edges so I'm usually happy.SogonaHumphrey knife which came rather dull.I tried sharpening it every way that has ever worked for me but no luck.So one day I said OK I'm bona get this thing sharp or ruin it trying. So I proced to really go at it on my Arkansas bench stone not being shy at all or wording about scratching it .Once working through all the grits I checked the edge and it was a very well defined convex edge I mean beautyfull and sharp as hell and held the edge great. Now I know that they say everyone can't hold a perfect angle so all v edge attempts will be somewhat convex. So I wonders if I happen to just have a natural back for creating convex edges on a flat stone!Fast forward months later and the Humphrey blade is still super sharp with minimal striping here and there. I don't know what type of edge that knife was supposed to have but I have a few others that are convex ground with a convex edge I'm pretty shire brkt knives .So I have been having some trouble withe edge retention with them using the sandpaper method.I have tried raising the angle I strop them at but no luck.I get them screaming sharp go to work open a few boxes and bam can't cut paper for nothing and I grab my back up which is a bench made griptillion that I sharpen on my bench stones so it to has a convex edge although unintentionally. And it cuts great and holds the edge.No I am in no way bad mouthing Brit knives I own several they are great knives .I'm shire its my sharpening, anyway I think I'm bona try putting one of my Brits to the stones instead of wet/dry paper if I end up with convex edges anyway then it will be a convex ground blade with a convex edge.Is this the wrong thing to do or what in my opinion if it gets sharp and works for me it dissent really matter how its supposed to be done. But I would like you guys input as I know some of you know way more than I in this subject and I always get good advise for this form.Thank in advance for any help and sorry if I rambled
