Well it finally happened. I have finally, totally lost my mind. True it has taken a while to get here, but...........I am in love with grey turds! Especially the big ones.
Can't really say when or how it happened, it just did. I have had several Sebenza's in the past few years and always ended up selling them for one reason or another. Always would regret it afterwards, but then go on and forget about it.
At this years Blade Show I snapped. I remember asking N.C. Blades where the best deals were on Sebenza's, then remembered seeing CRK's booth. Off I went. Talked to Chris Reeve for awhile and handled several of the large Sebenza's he had. Discussed computer graphics on the handles and wood inlays.
It was about then that I spied the wood inlay large Sebenza along the bottom shelf. BEAUTIFUL piece of ironwood, my favorite wood by the way, on the 2001 Sebenza. I couldn't get the cash out fast enough. From there I walked around with a goofy grin on my face, happy as a little young'un at Christmas!
I have now traded for another large Sebenza, a 1999 NIB model with the factory satin finish and dual thumb studs. I am still happy as can be over my two newest knives.
I honestly can't remember being this excited or as happy about a knife purchase as I have been with these. I have examined every square mm of each one and can find not a single flaw. The precision is simply amazing. The edge on both were hair popping sharp. Opening and closing a joy. Lockup is totally outstanding. The best thing is I have carried both, not at the same time of course, and not worried about it. That is something for me.
I had an oppurtunity to buy one of several customs in Atlanta and I kept comming back to the Sebenza. I know the precision should be there from the way they are constructed. Tolerances should be tighter than most any other folder out there, factory or custom. CRK accomplishes this in fine fashion, and to me at least builds a beauty of a folder. Of course beauty is in the eye of the beholder!
Don't take this as a knock on any other knife out there. I just suddenly begin to appreciate a knife that has been around for a decade and a half.
As always, this is just one man's opinion. Yours may differ.
