My local Ace Hardware is closing out some knives. Things like Bear Cutlery, Gerber, and Case. They have two display cases full of Frost knives. I asked the clerk why they were selling off the good stuff and stocking junk like Frost knives? She said, “It’s not that we want to. Frost is the only thing our warehouse is carrying now.”

Has Ace Hardware been bought out by Wall Mart?

Thats sad to hear. I gotta go to our local store and see if they are doing the same thing. I would imagine its probably going to be all of them.

My local True Value is doing the same thing, lots of Case models 25 to 75 percent off. You can get a 5 dollar off coupon, get a good deal. A few Buck models, but they're even getting rid of the new Schrades! Big case of Frost on the side. Yech.

The guy at the sporting goods counter of my local Walmart said that they are doing a redesign of the store, and are probably getting rid of most of the knife selection, except for the three dollar lockbacks with the junk camping supplies. The gunshop up the road from me is phasing out their CRKT selection, their Kershaw is going slowly but surely.

It is hard for even the chain stores to compete with internet sales, take from a man who was put out of business by net sales and the mart-marts. They have to look at a space on the floor and figure out what items will produce the biggest return on that square footage. Or conversely what items will cost them the least to stock there. When I had my shop I had a Case display as well as a showcase full of high end knives, but I sold the cheap Frost Edwards much more often and actually made more money from them.

It's sad but you have to make money to keep the doors open. And, btw, We did great business but the Wal-Mart opened up directly across the street from me...made it very hard to sell things when a huge company can cut your prices to a loss level.
