Haven't been around much lately, and that trend is going to continue, unfortunately. Bladeforums got filtered out by the firewall of my usual internet computer. (Insert rant about paranoid sheeple here). I can actually eavesdrop - I had the HI forum bookmarked and can somehow see that page, but I can't read posts or post to anything.

I'll turn up again around Christmas, but mostly I'll have to poke my head in every week or so. Email still works if you need to get in touch.

On the good side, I snagged a Foxy blem right before I got cut off, and a wood WWII from hoghead a little before that. The Foxy is HUGE. The blade is about as wide as my hand! The wood handle is BAS length, but about twice the diameter. It really fills the hand, and has the feel of the oldies. Steel mountings, which I wasn't expecting. Actually some of the metal is non-magnetic, so I'm wondering if it's stainless or nickle-silver. Karda is beautiful - definitely a handful. It's still half a notch below the kardas that came with a pair of Buras I ordered last Christmas (BGRS and Chiruwa AK), but the hand-filling size makes it much more useful. Overall very blade heavy and definitely the balance of a chopper. A friend dropped by and commented that it would easily remove appendages. Kumar did a great job on this one, and I'm glad to finally have something from him.

RR WWII filled in a gap. I've heard Rusty trumpet the 16.5" WWII, but only had an 18" model to compare. The 16.5 is definitely a more well-proportioned blade, with a perfect handle size. The 18" Sher still lives by the bed, though. Something about it speaks to me. Then again, I haven't had much opportunity to take it's litte brother out for a workout. We'll have to see....

It seems to be a trend: hackers, virus makers, and cyber-invaders are prompting substantial changes in the way MSN and many corporations are filtering email.

A friend recently sent out a warning email NOT to contact her with any email message that was not directly related to work...this after she has spent 28 years with the company ! Apparently, some of the worms can work their way through to critical files. The company is reviewing all emails and admonishing personal messages. Gotta love it.

Come back soon Tohatchi.

This is, unfortunatly, a continuing trend in IT culture. Technically its not a violation of the employees privacy becuase almost anything an employee does on equipment supplied by the employer is considered property of the employer unless there is a written agreement otherwise. However, most employers should realize the effect that this type of intrusion has on employees. I know that, even though I use email only for company purposes, if my employer started reading every incoming email I would very quicly start looking for other work.

At the moment employers have the advantage, in that other work may be difficult to find. However, that advantage wont last forever. Its very likly that an employer who employs gestapo-like tactics like this will loose his most valuable employees just as soon as they can leave. In my, perhaps somewhat limited experience, the only people who would stay around with this kind of treatment are the 'sheep' unmotivated individuals with no real concept of self. I think that if these individuals are unmotivated in life, they will be unmotivated in work as well. The other type of person who might stick around are those with a long time at the company and are looking forward to a pension or retirement. These may be good people or the may be time watchers, you never know. In this day and age there wont be that many people getting close to retirement in any case. Also if they are trusting thier employer to honor thier pension agreements for the rest of thier life then they are deluding themselves.

In any case, censoring content delivered to employees creates a hostil working environment that can only lead to problems for the employer.
