Oh wait....no I'm not. Because I just got ROBBED of every single OT cent by the Columbus PD and their little ticket factory set up at the bottom of a hill.

Yep! No crime going on in the big city of C-bus today! How do I know? Because they can spare FOUR cops pulling people over non-stop and fining them for speeds even a State Trooper wouldn't ticket you for!

ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY DOLLARS for going NINE miles an hour over the speed limit at the bottom of a hill!!

Anytime this could happen it would P me O. But they just happend to get me DAYS before getting my first check since before Christmas that I could easily buy something for myself.

Even an hour of P90X and then watching "Sucker Punch" hasn't cooled me off.

Sucks man - where did they get you? Was just at Vance's this afternoon w/ my son and they had three of the zombie knives. Handled all three. Bleah. They also have a Potbelly there (and a couple of Beckers). That one is growing on me a bit but not a lot.

fight the ticket. it'll cost you thousands in insurance over the next 5 years, depending on where you live.

if you do "discovery" on the ticket, the officer, his credentials... maybe you find something interesting. was the equipment in working order and recently inspected?

anything wrong on the ticket, ANY fact wrong, ask to dismiss.

make SURE the officer who's name is on the ticket shows up. if not, ask to dismiss without batting an eye.

worst case, ask full out for whatever your state has for basically "no fault, no points, but you'll pay the fine".

if you don't like it, fight it higher. there's a point where they often say "not worth it"...

i've a number of friends that always fight tickets, and quite often win. go for it.

Greenlawn Ave by the entrance ramp to 71N. It's one of their favorite spots. I just forgot because I haven't gone that way in forever. It's such a racket.

Haven't been to Vances in a long time, though I live about 5 mintues away if the lights stay green. Will have to go there and check out those knives. I'm betting they are overpriced.

As for fighting the ticket...is there some sort of resource that tells you how to do all that?

just google "fighting tickets" and such. lots of ideas and thoughts. there are books too.

but just SHOWING UP is almost enough, if the officer is not there, but has someone else in his place, it's just hearsay (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hearsay) imho, and you ask very politely, but firmly, to have it dismissed. if they say no, you politely but firmly ask the procedure to take it to the next level and schedule a hearing with a higher court.

one key thing. never, EVER admit you were speeding. don't say you were even 1 mile over the speed limit. think about how to relate the facts, without damning yourself, like a lawyer might. they will try to get you to admit to it. don't. say things like "i do not believe that i was speeding, and in fact, was riding my brakes, to stay within the limit. was there any chance the officer confused my speed with someone else?" etc.

if you feel you need to, consult a lawyer, because i am not one, not even on the intertubes.

fight fight fight. it's your right. the worst that happens is you pay the fine (and some stupid court fee). middle ground is you get a reduced fine and/or no points. best is complete dismissal.

Find out where the cop lives and impregnate his wife. Now let's see who spends more money. In Oklahoma 9 over the speed limit is always a ticket. Always. 3 over in my city is a ticket.

Bladite is giving you some very good advice. It works. Been there, done that.

Ah yep. I have my deer processed at Thurns right there. As to Vance's knives overpriced - you bet! :D

Not to sound like an ass but why not just drive the speed limit and not worry about having to fight tickets? I've never gotten a speeding ticket.

tickets can be given for arbitrary, even wrong reasons. if a cop wants to cite you for something, sooner or later, they can.

as i've heard from many a cop friend, and as referenced in that video above, eventually, no matter how careful you are, you WILL break the law, and if a cop wants you, he has you.

if you drive exactly at 55 mph, per your car's instruments, you might be surprised to find out that gps/radar says you're going a different speed. i've seen cars as much as 7 mph off. fight it. they'll just change the charge to equipment violation or something.

course, the radar can be off too. that's why you do discovery. a friend of mine who only does the speed limit, never speeds, got tagged for doing 20+. absurd. he had the cop zap cars going by, they're all 20+. they zap a tree. 20+. i wonder how many tickets that cop wrote that day? week? month? you can be sure none of them were told :)

so. not guilty until convicted :)

One thing I always wonder about people who claim they never speed...where do they live? In the city, it works like this: You BETTER go with the flow because everyone around you is on their cellphone talking or updating facebook. You want to be "that guy" going 55 when everone else is doing 65? Go ahead. Whiplash is awesome!

I don't even know I WAS doing 44mph. I sure wasn't passing anyone, and this is 30 min before rush hour on a 5 lane st. I just know he flagged me and said I was. I could almost get a BHK Bushcrafter for the price of that ticket. I Wally even driving unsafe. I don't even use the phone.

This is assuming that you didn't indeed break the law. If you break the law be a man and accept the consequences.

I drive in both rural and city environments. I have no problem going the speed limit.

there are bad laws, and the law is not always applied correctly, or fairly. fight. that's what court is for.

sheriff comes to your door with a warrant that says you broke the law. going to accept that? remember, you didn't break the law, until the man says you did :)

If your wrongly accused then yes you fight it. In fact it's your duty as a citizen to fight it. If however you knowingly broke the law then accept the consequences. I don't believe in shirking responibility. If you think that's acceptable then we are fundamentally different.

Yep, we must be. I was having this discussion on another forum, and in fact, they were just talking about it on Alex Jones. There are more and more unconstitutional laws being written everyday. So will you continue to do what you are told when the laws become really over the line? How about letting a grown man molest your little girl at the airport? Seems like a stretch from a traffic ticket, but I ask this anytime someone takes the "I never break the law and if you do you must pay!" stance. I don't believe in this victimless crime stuff. It's just a racket.

I should add that when I have been pulled over in the highway in the past for going over, I don't get upset. These little speed traps in areas where the limit is too low and not even residential (and at rush hour) just to raise money is ridiculous. You can go 40 mph on a bicycle.

The speed limit is the speed limit. If you don't like it and want to go over that's fine just own up to it. And equating a speeding ticket to unconstitutional laws is a huge stretch. Getting a ticket sucks and getting one in a speed trap is madenning. But you did the crime. Own it.
