This weekend. I've read ALL the old posts on water/brine quenching W2 and now it's time to try it. Wish me luck, fellas.

Good luck! That's something I've been thinking about doing, too, so let us know how it goes.

Come on, guys. Think positive. Lots of makers use water, it can and does work. Besides, I'm just ready to try something new, can't always do the same ole thing.:)

This will be interesting. From my limited experience with such, I would go with warm brine.

I know, but what if I get it right? Actually, I blame Stuart. He did a water quench on that Japanese blade posted recently. Just inspired me to take a shot. Also, being retired, I've got time to play around with this kind of thing. I'll get some Parks quench somewhere down the line, but for now, heck, it's just part of the fun of being a knifemaker.

I did one recently...thought I hit it, never heard a ping, but had a crack in my blade that only went half way through the cross section. I say good luck... I still have the pot of brine waiting for me to take another crack at it. I will soon.

Blame Me? Ha Ha...
Just don't over heat the blade, quench edge first and it should work out. Good luck!! When you get that sori curve... man what a cool feeling!

Actually, water quenching is a snap. The guys are just sniping at each other because the need a break from all the grinding they do. Water quenching isn't all it is cracked up to be, though. There can be a lot of heartbreak involved. Don't go all to pieces over the stress, or you may end up with a warped personality.
JUST DO IT!

Wow, Stacy, you could almost set that to music. Perhaps an old Patsy Cline song "I'ma walking, in the moonlight, crying tears of brine..my heart's broken in pieces..."

Just go for it and don't worry about it too much.
The Tink Fairy can sense your fear! I've never had an issue when I didn't care too much about getting a result.
Only when I really need the quench to work and haven't got the time to remake if it goes wrong, has the the Little Tinker arrived at my door.

Ive broke some but Ive got some real nice ones that didnt break..Its just a piece of steel, they make more every day..
