Goo Gone on Chinook scales

So there I am, minding my own business. Some idiot steals my Chinook 3, pours a half bottle of Goo Gone on the scales, and sneaks it back into the knife drawer. That's my story. I'm sticking to it.

OK, busted. I spilled it. It got on the show side, and the scale looks bleached and blotchy now. I can post a photo of this embarrassment if you absolutely make me. Question: is there any hope of restoring the look of the scale? Or will it look stupid forever?

Thanks,
Aram

You are here by mandated as OP to post pictures, for the morbidly curious.

If you did it to the other side you could pretend you did it on purpose or it might be a good time to sand down that aggressive finish for a smoother one.

I would start with cleaning the scales with mineral spirits or isopropyl alcohol and scrub it with an old toothbrush. If that didn’t help, then I would remove the scales and clean again with the solvent. Next, I would get some black rit dye and mix it with water and bring to a boil. Insert the scales in the dye and let soak for a while. Ever so often check to see if the color has evened out. Once you get the color you want. Dry with some paper towel and reassemble your knife.

Toothbrush. Isopropyl alcohol. Five seconds of scrubbing. That worked perfectly! Thank you!
