Hello to All,

I'm looking to get a Balisong, and after doing much reading in this forum it appears that the BM 42 is the favorite (except for that one guy who likes the Brass Tiger).

Now not knowing a hell of alot about these knives I was looking for advice as to my 1st acquisition.

I plan to work with the knife as much as possible, it should be able to handle alot of flipping. It might become my every day carry as well. I'm definitely not looking for a knife that's going to sit in a display case.

After visiting Benchmade's website, I was shocked to discover that a BM 42 ran $170.00 (not inc/shipping)...ouch! What's up with that?! I thought to myself, if I'm going to drop $170.00 on a BM 42, why not go for a $200.00 MT Tachyon (I own other MT knives, all worth the $ spent).

I did notice several postings here that said a BM 42 could be had for around $110 - $120. However, after searching, the lowest I could find was $150.00 at knifezilla (not inc/shipping).

Again being a newbie, I was hoping to get the more experienced of you to put your .02 in.

Are either of these two makes/models worth my hard earned dollars (again I have had experience with other MTs, but not BMs)?

What about the Balisongs offered at balisong.com. They run around $80 - $100. Has anyone had good/bad experiences with these?

In short, what would be my best 1st Balisong for the buck?

Thanks...LD (Bali-novice).

PS: No offence Brass Tiger fan, I know nothing about 'em.

Well, the BM42 was my first bali, and I think it's great. One Stop Knife Shop (Bladeforums' commercial branch) has the BM42 for $130. You could also try looking for a 'slightly experienced' 42 in the exchange area.

Thanks for the replies :) .

BalisongBoy...I checked that site, however the BM42 had price upon request next to it. How recently did they give you that price?

Thanks again...LD.

Thanks for all the input you'all.

My BM-42 is on it's way from americanoutdoorsports.

Now all I have to do is wait for UPS, and get ready to bleed. In the meantime it's over to Clay's site for some studying ;) .

Later on...LD.

PS: Bandages, antiseptic, sutures, and several units of whole blood are at the ready, waiting for the BM-42 to arrive :D .
