Im looking for a new work knife seeing as how my coworker just broke my mora s1. I would like something with a reasonably thick somewhat wide, 3"+/- carbon steel blade. Ive checked cold steel and sypderco and didnt see anything I liked. I cant really think of anyone who might make a blade like this. I have looked in a few different forums and could only find customs. I would like to keep this knife around 65 dollars or so.
Thanks

I was about to tell you to get a RAT-3... I don't know if you can still get a hold on one though. The RC-3 is a better knife but definitely more expensive than those 65$ you want to spend.

$100. will get you a 3" Barkie Woodland SPL. I have one on the way. Convex, A2 steel!

If you liked the mora, check out RagweedForge. He has lot's of nicer scandi knives in your price range.

This one has a carbon steel blade, 3" long, 3/4" wide, .130" thick. Sells for $43.

Another knife I forgot to mention before is the Blackjack Small, if you don't mind buying Chinese-made. Flat ground with a convex edge. Price is around $25 new.

Queen Drop Point Hunter. Steel is D2, blade is 3 1/2". Should be able to get it with oak or micarta scales for $45-$55.

Bah! I had a great suggestion written up and then I saw the carbon steel part!

Okay, it isn't flat ground but here's one that's definitely in your budget. Actually a couple of options. Blind Horse Knives make a series of patch knives using L6 or 4140 sawblade steel (its reheat treated by Peter's Heat Treat in Meadville, PA once they're ground). Anywhere from $20 for a Small Tiger Knapp to $40 for the BHK Patch Knife.

Great blades and a heck of a deal for the $$, especially for a handmade custom.

I have 4 of their knives now, including 2 Tiger Knapps, and a BHK Patch knife on the way now.

Now, they are hollow ground blades, and I'm honestly not a fan of hollow grinds typically. However, I tested their Workhorse knives pretty heavily and was impressed with what they'd do. And I've used my Tiger Knapp a good bit over the past 5 or so months and don't have any complaints on it either.

I like the RC-3 a lot, but if you're in a < 3.0" state like IL, I thought that it's ~ 3.3" sadly.
