I am on the fence between a sharpmaker or a 2 or 3 folders to serve different purposes whatever I do not get I will get in a few weeks. I want 3 or maybe 2 different folders to serve 3 different purposes it might be a waste of money, but I need to add to my collection and I will feel a lot better pulling the trigger if I can tell myself I need these knives.

One will be my general purpose heavier use something like a endura 4 or RAT-1 possibly It will be used the most but it won't need to be that good of a slicer, 2 will be a thin very sharp blade for situations I want to such as open that bombproof plastic packaging a sharp thin tip and blade is ideal here and a leek very much suits my purposes but there a numerous knives built like that, and finally 3 would be a knife that would mostly cut food and food related things not strictly necessary but I dislike stained knives so I want a knife dedicated to it obviously stain resistance is most important and so is price and I will leave up to you the best blade shape for cutting food.

I would like all knives to be around 3 inches give or take a half inch but with different blade shapes.

I would say an Endura or Delica FFG would work best for those last two purposes, because (to me, at least) those knives and "heavier use" don't go together all that well.

For your first category, maybe something like a Cold Steel Rajah III would suffice. The Endura and Rajah III are two of my main EDC's in those roles.

It may be too much money but whats your thoughts on a recon 1? it looks heavy duty without being massive.

Something from Cold Steel, (I'd recommend a Spyderco Manix 2 if it wouldnt tip the price over your limit)

The leek you already mentioned, I have one and love it.

As far as a slicer that won't stain, I know the Salt series knives from Spyderco won't rust, not sure what that means as far as stains but the Pacific Salt seems to fit your needs.

To give you something else to think about, try out a traditional slipjoint, like a stockman. Three fundamentally different blades, different purposes. Clip point for general use, sheepsfoot for precision plastic packaging opening, spey for food.

Just another viewpoint to consider. If you can't stand not having one-handed opening, then forget about it.

I would use a SAK but anything bigger I probabably would not Ive had bad experiences with slipjoints if I try to use the tip at an angle I've had them snap closed on my fingers before.. lots of blood.

Why do you need three folders at once? I'd recommend getting one quality, well-thought out $120 folder that your really want over getting three random folders just for the sake of getting three folders any day.

If you really need more than one, get a Manix 2 and a Vic Pioneer. Between the two, you'll find very few tasks you can't accomplish.

As for a food knife, I'd recommend something designed for the purpose - not a folder.

A lot of higher end $120 dollar knives such as the benchmade 710 that grab me tend to have hard to sharpen steel.. and thats $120 less I have to spend on a expensive sharpener.

Case Mini Trapper = $35
Spyderco Endura = $60
ESEE Izula = $55

Substitute the Case for a Spyderco UKPK Lightweight for the same price
Substitute the Endura for a Kershaw Blur or Leek with a D2 blade.

If you're having difficulties sharpening your knives, I'd recommend investing in a sharpening system or some sharpening lessons.

I'd also recommend investing in some more punctuation. :D

I kid. ;)

Another vote for the Buck Vantage, I would get a Buck 110 first though. Both of them should set you back a total of $80 or less depending on which version of the Vantage you get.

The 110 is a classic design, everyone should have at least one of them for the $30 or so that they sell for now.

buck vantage pro, spyderco endura, and the izula are all great knives, i highly recommend them. they can all be had for $60 or under, i'd pick 2 and they'll cover pretty much everything.
