I should never have found this forum. Not only am I bugging you guys with threads you've probably seen dozens of times, I'm killing my wallet!

Anyways. I'm looking for a decent to really good flashlight in the 80 range. I could go less than 80, or maybe a little more, but in general I want a good flashlight for general use and camping. Something with good lighting capabilitys (like I can see stuff easily), good battery run time, and hopefully normal batteries. Blah blah blah. Recomendations?

My favorite all around flashlight of all time is the Nitecore D10. There are lot's of other great ones but I'm completely sold on the Piston Drive and entire user interface of the D10. Not to mention it accepts an AA battery and is smaller than a lot of AA lights.
Usually in the $55-$60 range.

My Fenix has treated me well. I started out with an L2D (2x AA,) but later went to a P2D body (1 CR123.) It has survived daily carry and use, as well as numerous drops on concrete. The only gripe I have is that when the batteries finally die, they go completely kaput. Most lights, you at least get a dim glow. It's nada with my Fenix (might be different with newer models.) I always have fresh batteries handy.

I am happy with my Quark AA x 2 tactical and Fenix LD20. It's a toss-up between the two, really depends on the interface that you like, and whether you want the moonlight mode. Both the Quark and Fenix lights use the same LEDs.

I'd say anything by 4seven (ie quark or preon), excellent lights and affordable.

4Sevens make nice lights. I carry a Quark MiNi 123 on me at all times as a back up light. Small and packs some serious punch. It's nice to have a couple hundred lumens on your keychain.

Olight T25 Tactical. 2x AA, excellent run times and output, and a simple user interface with enough modes to cover anything you might need without getting ridiculous. Would recommend it without issue. They seem to go for $50-60 or so.

+1 For G2L if you want a super simple 1 mode flashlight, make sure you find the new 120lumen G2L, get the old G2L if you want to get a P60 drop in for it. Go for a Quark if you want lots of lumen options, I suggest getting the tactical version, the regular with the head loosened has 6 modes and it is super annoying trying to get to high or accidentally going 1 mode over and having to turn it off for 5seconds(or cycling the 6 modes).

LRI's Proton PRO features a single high-power 2W Cree LED to produce an incredible 1,000+ candle power (approx. 115 max lumens), powered by a single AA battery. A smaller red LED provides an optional low power secondary beam. LRI's popular Freedom(R) digital circuitry provides intuitive one-button access to full-range brightness control and safety strobe functions for both the primary and secondary beam. With its output of over 1,000 candle power, the new Proton PRO is one of brightest single-AA flashlights on the market. One AA battery will power the Proton for approximately 1.5 hours at full power or up to 250 hours at reduced brightness. Ready for extreme survival conditions and daily use. One button does it all!

I bought one and it's pretty sweet, especially for the price

Check out the 4Sevens Preon 1 & 2. 1 is a 1 AAA, 2 is a 2 AAA. Lights have a low, medium, and high, as well as a SOS, strobe, high beacon, and low beacon modes. Fantastic lights, and they also have an optional clicky switch. The Preon 1 sells for around $40, the Preon 2 for just a bit more.

Quarks are great if you want a pocketable light. Buy the tactical version if you get one.

My favorite in this catagory if you don't want a pocket light is the Olight M20 Warrior. Very versatile and very bright.

I must agree.

It is the best:
  • Simple
  • Bright
  • Good battery life
  • Solid warranty
  • USA Made

It doesn't have great "features", it doesn't have a clicky tailcap. It doesn't have dual modes or multi-color beams. It doesn't have adjustable spread or brightness. It is simple, solid, and dependable. That is what I call "best."

As a person who has a few surefires, I like them too. However, the flashlight that is ALWAYS on me excepting on martial art mats is my quark. For people not willing to do the battery investment, G2 led isn't the best.

Zero

Alas, I missed that requirement. :(

Maybe he'll convert? :)

Another vote for the Nitecore D10. Had mine for several months and it is perfect for EDC, IMO.
