Hey I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good all purpose knife to me i want one the is tough and can take a beating and and get a good edge and keep it I have tried Ruko knives and they are ok same with buck knives i got a custom made folder from the north American hunting club but it is way to small and i cannot get it back its factory edge and i have also tried smith and Wesson I basically want a knife with at least a 5 inch fixed blade full tang some sort of serration on the back that cuts well and does not rust i am willing to spend quite a bit i live in Canada so hopefully some suggestions will be near hear and i heard benchmade is a good brand is this true? Thanks

Ugh, I already had a headache... Put a few periods and commas and I'll try to read it.

I have enjoyed using Gerber Freeman... Not real expensive, easy to sharpen well hardened blade... Not real exotic but will give good service.

Last question first, yes Benchmade makes good knives (a comment for the ages)
But I do not think they make a model that fits your stated requirements.

How much do you want to spend?

I think I would look at Bark River knives if I had your set of requirements. Though I am not sure if they make a blade with saw teeth on the back. I don't think many people have found such teeth to be useful.

all purpose knife

Ah yes, the famous all purpose knife. Busse Battle Mistress, no, no, I mean the Swiss Army Knife, Champion. Uhmmm, hold on a minute, I forgot about the Fallkniven H1, F1, S1 knives.

I don't mean to make light of your question. But, you are asking for a conclusion to a question that takes some experimentation on your part.

The variables are considerable. Steel, grip size, edge geometry, carry options and more that will become clear as you actually put your knives (plural) to use. Price is not always a reliable indicator of quality. The suggestions you get from us may be a good place to start, but you will find that actually using a knife is about the only good test. "You have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find your prince (or princess, as the case may be)".

I wanted to short cut the selection process, so I read all the knife and blade forums and started selecting my "all purpose knife". I thought that if I bought what the experts liked I could claim their expertise as my own, as I carried my rare Ofal/Scat, custom made, limited edition, woods-o-rama knife. I found a lot of decent knives, some better than others. For me it came down to the search being an end in itself. I am not done looking and probably won't be for a while.

I say, "welcome, brother knife searcher." Keep us posted as to what you find as you keep looking.

benchmade has has fostered sharp objects throughout the world so yes they make great blades i would recomend the seal team or the seal elite by SOG knives

You could always try one of the USAF pilot survival knives. I think it fits most of your requirements, and IIRC, there are a couple of companies making them. I have one that I have used for years, and have no complaints with it. I have no idea what it is made out of, but it hasn't rusted yet. They also are not that expensive, running around $40-50 last time I checked.
