this type of Swiss Army bayonet I have had one for a long time. The other day I decided to throw it at my throwing target. This thing is tough as nails and virtually indestructable. I have hit in every wrong way imaginable with zero damage or bending. It sinks deep and is very satisfying. A good thrower for less than $15 bucks. My next plan is to grind down the grooves on the handle for better release.

I think I will order many more of these beauties ;)

I have a beat up Turk Mauser bayonet that is used as a thrower. It will take alot of abuse and stick deep.....

I always wanted to pick one of those up just for sh1ts & giggles - had figured next time I bought something from cheaper then dirt I'd grab one. Now I have aother reason to.

How about removing the barrel loop from the guard? And how long is that thing overall BTW?

Thanks!

Regarding the Mauser bayonet, I learned to throw with a Czech model (well that and an Ontario 'kabar'). My Grandmother got it for me to go with my Czech Mauser when I was about 10yrs old. Still have the bayonet - I'd never think about throwing it now though!

I used an old m 16 bayonet. took off the handle, sawed off the butt and the ring on the guard. then put some thin slabs of wood and wraped it with para cord. I've put this thing through hell. sharpened it and used it. thrown it. you name it. but some how when I came back from over seas it was gone and I can't find it. bayonets I think are definitly a good choice for a throwing knife. reasonable cheap. easy to make it your own . they're designed to penetrate and take a beating. made of tough steel. and have a good weight for throwing as well.

Even if it is a little big to be an optimal thrower & ground wrong to be a very good cutter, a young kid can feel pretty safe with a 10" blade bayonet when say, spending the night alone & outdoors. So I think bayonets rock!

As far as dedicated throwers go, I always thought about using the blade bayonet off of my SKS, putting some type of makeshift handle on it & making that a new thrower. Maybe I'll give it a shot over the summer - especially if we loose power for an extended period again. I tend to devote a bit more time to throwing on such occaisons... :)

I havent gone about trying to modify it as of yet, but I was thinking of making a spear using the original mounting hardware including the barrel loop. I think I will buy a few before I start messing around, however.
Here is the place I bought it- Sig Bayonet
the price has actually dropped a bit, I had heard that the Swiss army switched to a new rifle, so they probably arent issued items anymore.

The barrel loop is just as strong as the blade, I believe- I Nailed it with a crappy thrower, and it smashed the hell out of the thrower's edge with zero damage to the guard. It could easily be cut off with a plasma cutter or hacksaw, then smoothed out. I havent tried disassembling the handle, so I am unsure of tang type, and method of mounting.

edit: here is better deal, maybe- two for one: mauser and sig bayonets set.

FYI the butt screws right off of the sswiss bayonet. just remove the screws and turn the butt cap. the handles a litte difficult to take of sometimes but It throws a lot beter in my oppinion without the guard. I did order the 2fer deal, I actually got 2 sets. the mauser bayonet hits really hard. but I'm not sure about removing that handle as it looks like it might be a half tang. Thanks for the advice on the web site.
