Good Band Saw

I am in need of a decent band saw for cutting wood into scales....cutting blocks in half and roughing out the shape.

I would like a rip fence, but I can always get by with a clamped straight edge.

I picked up the Skil 9" POS at Lowe's last night and it's going back tonight...yuck. I liked it because it had two speeds, was fairly compact, had a rip fence, and cost $120.00. I thought I was in hog heaven until I set it up and turned it on. Cheap is an understatement.

There is a similarly priced Craftsmen one, and one for $200 from Craftsmen and then they jump up to over $300.00 from what I can find.

Anyone have a decent option or experience with any in the sub $300 range?

A lot of guys on here buy the portable metal band saws an either make or buy a stand for it. That's what I did, at least. Bought a DeWalt 10 amp deep cut portable band saw and a stand from Swag Offroad (still on the way). Both together was almost $400, but you can probably buy a cheaper or refurbished DeWalt (the 6 amp one should be sufficient) or something similar. If you're willing and have the tools you can easily make a stand for your bandsaw as well as a larger table (simply bolt a bigger piece of steel to the existing fence with countersunk screws into the existing table).

I have a Rikon bench-top, which seems decent so far. It's only one speed and won't do metal in any meaningful way. I think it was around $350 (birthday present).
