good belts for grinding wrought iron?

So, I've recently been pleasantly surprised by Norton's heavy grit "blaze" ceramic belts for rough grinding steel. They cut well and last surprisingly longer than other heavy grit belts I've tried. However, I've noticed they work very poorly on the wrought iron i have. They dull extremely quickly and don't even seem to cut the wrought that well. It's as if the wrought iron sort of just smoooshes around and the grit on the belts get ripped away from the backing, or something like that. I don't even get any sparks from grinding the wrought (i understand wrought doesn't spark as bright and flashy as carbon steel, but i only get the odd stray spark if i push down really hard, even on a fresh Blaze belt).

Has anyone else had this experience? Any recommendations on belts specifically for grinding softer stuff like old dirty wrought iron?

Thanks,
Dustin

I have been using old wrought iron for fittings for years and have never experienced the problems you are having using the same belts you have mentioned. My only thought is maybe what your using isn't wrought iron.

I use the Blaze belts too on wrought and have no problem, they eat wrought real easy. Also I run the belts at different speeds with no problem although the Blaze belt works best at high speed.
