Good/Best/Nice (whatever other word you want to use) backpack with organizing pockets

I'm hoping I'm posting in the right area...but, anyways, I'm looking for a backpack very similar to the Condor 3-Day Assault. By similar I mean in the way it has its pockets and organizing sections. I have an Oakley Icon and it feels very comfortable and I like the bag...however, the front pocket (which has its organizer pockets) isn't closed (not zippered or cinch-closed) in any way so when the pack gets tossed upside down, sometimes the loose items drops out. The main compartment is just one big chasm where I can fill it up with pretty much whatever I need BUT I constantly rummage through it to find what I want.

Now, I've been looking at both the 5.11 Tactical Rush 72 and the Condor 3-Day Assault packs. I like both packs and both have their pros and cons. I've read countless reviews that say the Condor is inferior in quality and some sites like it at 600 denier while others list it at 1000. The downside to the Condor is that the sternum strap is a little low while the 5.11 doesn't have a sternum strap.

I've had packs that did not have the sternum strap and it seems fine without it but since I've used the Oakley, I've gotten used to it (with heavier loads).

So, unless I've missed something somewhere (which I might have), is there another pack, within the $150 range, that is comparable to either packs I've mentioned? Please don't get me wrong, I'm not saying either pack is the defacto standard for me, but it's what I've been looking at and I'm most familiar with to be able to reference anything against.

I will be using this pack as a daily pack with some light field-duty (I get out in the fielding underground electrical boxes which would require me to carry extra clothing and tools, both small and large, and a some additional supplies such as flashlights and gloves). I would prefer not to use a dufflebag as those aren't as comfortable on my shoulder as a backpack is.

Thanks, guys!

Take a look at the Maxpedition Vulture II and the Camelbak BFM.

If you want something with a less overtly military appearance, check out the Kelty Redwing 2650 (it's a good deal cheaper, too.)

I enjoy the molle attachment ability as I have a few things that I can attach to it, already. From the four (including my choices), I think I like the Condor best, in appearance...however, due to so many complaints about it, I don't know if I really want to go that route. Complaints as in things breaking prematurely. Now, I understand things break over time so I won't actually hold that one against it, but you get my point.

Now, looking at the Max Vulture II, it has slightly less molle attachments as compared to the Rush 72 and Condor. Now while this isn't as important as I may have lead you to believe, I just find it more expandable and I can attach more crap onto it when the time comes, if needed.

The other criteria I would like is that it should be able to carry a pair of boots and be able to withstand tools being tossed in the main sack. As I stated, my job requires me to access sub-surface enclosures and we have these tools that resemble a cross with three sockets and a semi-large screwdriver (on each corner). So, it should be able to keep the tools in the bag without me having to worry about it poking out. We don't always need to walk with all the tools (as most of the time, the enclosures are withing a few steps after parking, however, there are several occasions where we will have to, basically, hike to the enclosure location).

Thanks for your suggestions, CubistHamster, but I'm still leaning towards either the Condor 3-Day or Rush 72 (sorry to be so picky and a bug)...my reasoning for still holding onto the Condor 3-Day is its looks...I like how its organized and its appearance. On the same token, the Rush 72 looks good, too, just not as organized, if you can say that...

I will throw something completely different out- Tactical Tailor Medics bag. If you can pick one up used with used pouches available for 2.00 at many flea markets and gunshows- you have unlimited ability to organize. The molle webbing can be used to secure tools like your star wrench- slide one leg through a web and use a small strap/fastex buckle to secure the top leg.
These bags were designed for field medics to organize supplies and open completely so you can unzip it and hang it for access. Using pouches with flaps lets you invert it without losing small items into the body of the pack.

I don't have a 72, but I have a 5.11 Rush 24 and the organization in it is amazing. Way better than any other pack I've seen by anybody. It is also very sturdy and durable, and does have a sternum strap. I'd be surprised if the 72 was different.

A fairly new bag on the market (from a fairly new company) is the 1776 Range Bag - This is a small pic but it has a system where you have slots for smaller bags that velcro in - I use it to organize my pistols when to and from the range but the possibilities for organization seem endless:

Tactical Tailor makes/made one, and you can find em in multicam for around $50 if they're in stock (and you really look). All other colors I've seen are around $150-$200, but they are made in the US with incredible attention to detail, worth every penny.

The Condor 3 day assault pack seems like a rip-off of the Camelbak BFM. I had Condor pack (don't remember which one) and it was definitely inferior quality to all of my Camelbak packs. I have Camelbak BFM, and it made it through a year in the 'Stan, and I think a year in Iraq as well. I am not sure what I actually did with that pack, but it held up very well. I have since owned 3-4 other Camelbak packs, and they have all been excellent.

My unit issued me one of the 5.11 72hr packs, and it seems very durable. I just don't care for it. I mainly just use it to carry my PT clothes around. I don't find it to be very comfortable.
