Took a birthday trip Tuesday to a big box store and a knife store in Central PA, the capital region/Amish country. Bought two knives. The first was a SS Peanut, brown bone. I had been thinking about getting an SS peanut to replace my CV peanut. Yeah, I know that sounds counter intuitive, but my chestnut bone CV (is that a collective gasp I hear ;)) was developing too many spots. I put some Militec in the springs, need to clean the knife with pipe cleaners and put it back in my pocket. Almost lost it on the ride home, because it's so darned small. I really like it, it is exactly like one I gave to my baby sister, who is nicknamed "peanut" (all of 14 going on 15 now).

At the other store, I bought a Queen #11 barehead trapper with zebrawood scales. I bought a Mountain Man with zebrawood scales several years ago, and was really happy with it. It takes and holds a great edge. This one had what I thought at the time was a good edge. Took it home, and started working on it. Started out with a flip stik sharpening rod, then moved to a Spyderco sharpmaker, then to a strop, and back again to the sharpmaker. I really need to learn to sharpen better and stick to a single angle, but I am working on the knife. I plan on hitting another knife shop this weekend, and will see if the owner can sharpen it for me. Those blades are pretty thin, and I haven't removed the bevel yet, but I don't want to mess up a brand new knife.

Last week, I had ordered a few knives. I picked them all up yesterday. Schatt and Morgan Heritage series, Case, Imperial and PAL. I bought the premium stockman with bone scales, and had some mixed feelings about the knife. I had one of the two blade spearpoint jacks from last year's offerings, and the main blade has a loose half stop. Not bad, but for a premium line, I expected more. Luckily, this knife does not appear to be one of the horror stories I've read and heard about. I was hoping to see the other offerings from SM at the aforementioned knife shop, but the owner was dissatisfied with the knives, and sent them all back to Queen. The half stops are a little loose on these, but for the most part, this is a good knife. I really like the bone they're using, and the premium stockman is just about my favorite pattern. I also ordered three knives from a member on here. One was a Case bearhead trapper, in SS; an Imperial scout knife missing an implement and a PAL scout knife. I already started bringing the scouts back to life, and look forward to carrying the Case.

Over the weekend, I hope to trade for a more modern one hand folder, but I think this week has been pretty good slipjoint wise ;).
