I'm interested in making folding knives, and was wondering what some of you thought about various books on the subject. I'm looking for a good "how-to" kind of book that covers the basics, but there seem to be quite a few books on the subject. I guess I'm looking for input on which ones are good, bad or otherwise. I'd be interested in any thoughts you guys might have. Thanks!

Hi,
Blackie Collins wrote one called "The Pocket Knife Manual" in the 70's. Its really good. So is the one Bob Terzoula wrote on how he makes tactical linerlocks, published by Blade magazine- the name escapes me at the moment. The book called "Custom Knifemaking, 10 Projects from a Master Craftsman" also shows step by step how to make a lockblade and a regular case type single blade pocket knife, plus 8 other fixed blade knife projects- really great book.

Thanks for all of the feedback, gentlemen. Looks like I'll be ordering some books this evening!

Liner locked folders, Bob Terzuola's book.
Slipjoint Folders...Eugen Shadley and Terry Davis's book....unfortunately is out of print and commands a very, very premium price....but is Real Fine info.....
Might check with Eugene Shadley....at one time he had copies of his part of the book available......check out his e-mail on the Knifemakers' Guild website....
There are othe fine texts about making folders.....but the 2 I mentioned are my main printed resources for linerlocks or slipjoints.

For slipjoints "The complete book of pocketknife repair" by Ben Kelly Jr. is still in print. While not a how to make per se, it does show how a slip joint works and fits together.
