Found a good book in the bargain book section at Barnes and Noble yesterday, for under $10. It`s "Wilderness Survival Skills, How To Stay Alive In The Wild With Just A Blade & Your Wits" (although it should be How To Stay Alive In The Wild With Just A JK Blade & Your Wits".) Pretty interesting, so far.

Try Shantaram, by Gregory David Roberts, one of my most memorable reads in a very long time.

I love a good read,so I will definitely check it out, thanks for the tip.
Have you read any Mark Helprin?

I've been to a lot of gun and knife shows here in Michigan and some of the best survival books that I've seen or purchased were declassified military field manuals.
they seem to skip some of the silly stuff you see in some of the survival books out there and get right to the nitty gritty.

Self-Reliance is a huge thing with me and mine.. and I'd love to read this book as well. I'll keep an eye out for it. Could be a good addition to my cache-library.
And it will be a handy guide.. in the near future. Hate to say it, but "it's" coming.

Field Manuals rock.. and usually written at a third to fifth grade level so even I can grasp it ;-)
Most of my time is spent tightening up my skills and guiding my kids in the same direction these days. Who would have ever thought that leaving a career behind would make a person 10X busier than he has ever been? lol

Does anyone have the Field manuals in a pdf format for downloading? I would like to check out some!

I found this one for a great price last year,250+ pages of info.
A bit big for carrying around,(It's as big as my old laptop)but it has actual photos & color diagrams which helps a dummy like me & is full of great info that covers just about everything.

Does that price tag say Half Price Books? I love that place!

I don't always read books, but when I do, I prefer those written by George Herter (a nice mix of outdoor lore and humor in a psychopathic rant style). Try GETING OUT OF THE RAT RACE AND LIVING ON $10 A MONTH as a title, or How to Live With a Bitch

That looks like a good read, like it. We just got a Half Priced Book store, went the other day but didn't find any outdoor books.

I checked B&N today but they didn't have the book John found, oh well.

Our Half Price Books has a pretty good section on guns, knives, camping, survival, fishing, and anything outdoorsy.
