I've often seeen folks around here mention Cody Lunden's 98.6 degrees:The Art of Keeping Your A** Alive, but had never read it myself.

Today I stumbled across a copy and it is just a good as they say!

If you haven't got it, it's well worth the time and money!

Yep, great book. The wife surprised me with it awhile back and I think it's one of the better reads on the subject.

Its full of really good real life information, and has a great how to build a survival kit section.

Hey Ron,
Just wanted to say how much I like your site, you really need to contact Jeff Wagner and get a Firepiston on loan, as thats all that seems to be missing from your list of fire stuff. He let Bushcraft UK review one, so I can't see him having a problem with it.

Great book. I would recommend it to anyone with an interest in wilderness survival -- or hunting -- or wilderness bird-watching, etc. But note that his understanding of knives is pretty shallow. Glaring example, from what he writes he thinks SS is always harder to sharpen than carbon steel. (Having seen pics of him while actually teaching, he sems to wear pants or shorts, shirt, and brimmed hat as compared to breech-clout illustrated in book. PR stuff. :D )

Just a quick note to say that I have joined the Cody Lundin's fans club about a week ago (it's not that easy to buy books when you work on a ship).
Thanks Myakka and everybody else for the good advice!
Fausto
