Just wondering what good quality bowies are out there... I'm primarily interested in production knives but pics of cool custom bowies are always welcome.

The list I have as of right now:

  1. Fallkniven NL1 Northern Light Thor Bowie 10" VG10 Blade
  2. Cold Steel Knives Laredo Bowie, Faux Cocobolo Handle, 10.50 of SK5 carbon steel
  3. Cold Steel Knives Natchez Bowie Knife with Black Linen Micarta Handle and Leather Sheath 11.75" blade of VG-1 San Mai III steel
  4. and others from cold steel
  5. SOG Bowie 2.0 6" blade AUS 8A (does 6" qualify as a bowie?)
  6. Kabar Large Heavy Bowie: Blade length 9"; 1085 Carbon
  7. Boker bowie of unknown stainless It's expensive so I assume it's good... may be bad assumption.

Customs
  1. Steingass Battle Bowie
  2. Musso Bowie 1095 carbon
  3. Thread of freakishly cool custom bowies

The classic KA-BAR USMC is a bowie style, and a very good knife. It is also an amazing value for the price.

Check out the custom makers Ray Laconico, Don Hanson III, and Dan Graves.

For production bowie-style knives at a variety of price points look into Ek, Bark River, AG Russell, Buck (model 120), Boker Arbolito, Ka-Bar/Becker, and Anza.

Ontario, Spec-Plus SP-10 Marine Raider Bowie. Made in America, 1/4" thick, & IMHO has an armor piercing point. Under $65 to your door. Get you one !!!

RosArms (Russian Arms) has some knives large enough to classify as "bowie" knives even though they aren't marketed as such. Here is their Wolfhound model for example:

I have two of their knives and the level of finish is superb.

Wonder how much that'd be worth now...
I haven't seen any of his older knives for sale recently, so I have no idea.

Here's another of his early knives:

Here's one of his recent knives for comparison (photo from the gallery at Sunfish Forge website):

For a modern bowie? I like Busse's interpretation of the bowie knife in the battle mistress... especially the CGFBM. His Battle Pappy isn't bad either. Always a soft-spot for the earlier production Cold Steel Trailmaster and Gerber bowie knives.

The ontarios are good cheap bowies. down under knives has a big pretty bowie as well as tops knives, prather war bowie, armageddon.

Any collection need at least one good bowie!

Go for one in the "Thread of freakishly cool custom bowies"!
Who doesn't want one of those?
I do for sure and one day I might have the possibilitys to get one.

In the meantime I enjoy good production bowies and my inventory list knives from Fällkniven, Bark River and Solingen.

A bowie You obviously left out that has a given place here, is a Randall #12-9.

I've gotta say, I definitely prefer his newer knives. Still, though, I'd bet the early ones are worth a lot.

All three of the knives posted from my collection, the two from Don Hanson III and the Prentice, were purchased here in the For Sale By Maker area at very reasonable prices.

Looks like a place to keep an eye on.
Thanks for the heads-up!:)

Another one that has proven to be good in my hands, is the Scagel Large Bowie:

Great knife to work with!

I'd be inclined to add the Becker BK9 to that list.
