Hey guys I was wondering if you could recommend a good brand of tequila. I work with four Mexicans who are great guys and I know that at least three of them enjoy tequila. They work very hard and are extremely nice, I figured that I should pick um up a bottle as a small thank you. Is there any out there that is good for a moderate price?

Thanks

Dan,

Try the Chinaco Anejo if you can find it. Remarkably smooth and complex like a fine cognac. My favorite but it's getting harder to find.

WOW! Thanks for that list Daniel.

Hmm if its hard to find I doubt I'll find it, we have one local liquor store.

Pffft Indian George :jerkit::jerkit: just wait till ashokan, I'll bring you some upstate NY white lightning hehehe. It will burn going down and comming back up :D.

One of my favorites that was not mentioned above is "IL Tesoro" Anejo from a family owned distillery with similar pricing to Herradura and other top Tequilas. Il Tesoro is aged three years in oak casks and has a smokey flavor remeniscent of some of the thicker Scotches.

If it isn't Anejo its crap. Anejo tequila is some of the smoothest liquor I've ever had.

i have enjpyed some fine tequilas over the years. Have fished of the east cape of baja california many times and stayed at palmas de cortez. 1 you want to start with 100 % blue agave, if its not your not drinking good tequila. And i have to disagree with it being anejo. diferent aging techniques bring out diferent flavors, i would not be using anejo tequila for mixing margaritas i would use silver. The tequila i happen to enjoy most and probably wont find state side is Dona Engracia resposado.

Herradura is the best imo and easily outdrinks more expensive/popular tequila.

El Jimador is the best value in tequila giving you true tequila for the same price as the yucky stuff.

1 you want to start with 100 % blue agave

Unless the Mexican laws have changed I think its illegal to manufacture taquila using anything other than the blue agave. But it was a few years back I heard about that...

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

I believe that to be called tequila, it has to be at least 51% blue agave. To be Reposado or Anejo it has to be 100% blue agave. The blue agave also has to be grown in the state of Jalisco.

Less that 51% is called Mescal

Thanks for clearing that up Steve.

I'll see if I can make it to one of your next hammer-ins.
