Labour Day long weekend is coming up this weekend and myself and the girlfreind are going camping. I've never had a useable fixed bladed knife, I prefer to EDC a folder. But... I was in this little army surplus store in the small town of Port Coquitlam when I saw this little fixed blade. I really dont know how useful it will be when I go camping but for twenty bucks i couldnt let this one go :D The shape of the blade I find attractive, hopefully its as useful as it is pretty.

Im not very familiar with the company "Muela" but from what I've read in this forum they make rather good fixed blades for the money. What I cant seem to find is any info on the type of knife that i have.

My knife is a Muela Pik-AS with (looks like) brass fittings and some type of polished/glossy wood handle. If anyone has any info on this type of knife and what the intended use is of the knife (hunting? tactical?) id be very greatful!!

Thanks

Yep, I've got one also, but paid $59.99 for this one:

Let us know how yours hold up.

Silvercall, that's a skinning blade on that knife. Doesn't mean it won't do duty as a camp knife, but it was made for separating a deer from it's hide. The upswept blade does the job nicely. The finger choil is also a big help. Nothing wrong with the brand, especially at that price.

Thanks for the replies guys. Skinning...? i dont hunt but its good to know what the knife is for (thanks textoothpk). And Gary007, thats a beautiful knife you have there. Ill let you know how mine holds out this weekend.

Thanks again,

I know it says PIK-AS on the blade, but the knife actually looks more like a DP 10 M. Below is a photo of the DP 10 M

The blade is the same style as the PIK-AS, but the handle is very different. Here is a picture of the PIK-AS.

$20.00 Canadian was a very good price to pay for this knife.

Bought my pik-as back in about 97 for 45cad.

trying to recall the email I got back from them... think it's just basic nylon for the guards and 440c for the steel. might have to go digging for it.
