My old beater knife finally died (while batoning some firewood) All it was ever used for was batoning the fire wood for out back and throwing when I was bored.

Broke the tip and the pins warped and allowed the slabs to pop off so, it looks like time to buy a BK2!! I think its an acceptable upgrade :D

You could also look at a Ka-Bar Peter Janda Fin fixed blade. Super thick spine, good ergonomics, D2 steel, and can be found for a meager $40 or less.

Spend the extra $ and get an ESEE. Darn near indestructible and free replacement forever if you even break the tip.

For it's role in life, your old knife will still serve for batoning and a few minutes at a wheel will give you a point that will serve for relieving your boredom. No trouble at all to re-attach the scales. Besides I doubt that you intend to use a new BK2 in the same manner. The edge on that old Frost looks pretty good for a lifetime spent in batonning.

Nah wont be throwing the BK2 It will serve more as a general purpose camp knife for Wood prep and such.

Your old knife looks a bit longer than the BK2. If you want something with the same length, try a BK7 or something along those lines.

Also, you can totally pin those scales back on, and grind the tip back to a point, and continue to use it if you want. If you're looking for a good excuse to buy a becker... then go for it, you won't be disappointed :).

I've looked at the Peter Janda and it isn't quite what I want. I don't really intend to abuse the BK2 like I did the Frost. I'm looking for a camp knife capable of heavier duty tasks and from what I've seen Esse and Becker are about the best. And I like the quarter in. thick blade for any batoning it might do.

Buy a hatchet. It is so much better at splitting wood. And you can throw it too if you get bored. :D

Guilty as charged (looking for an excuse is exactly the case)
