What is a good carry knife for the wife.
Must have a clip.
Around 3" long blade.
Slim. (can hardly tell it is there.)

Thanks

I think Spyderco would be the place to look. Depending on what you want to spend, they have everything from the Delica, Calypso jr., Wegner jr. and plenty of other models. IMO they make the best production folders in the world.

Sounds like a Spyderco Centofante Jr. to me. Slim, 2 7/8" spear point blade. Very classy (and the more people who buy them, the faster Sal will use up the ATS-34 stock -- I want one in CPM 440V!).

Arizona poses good questions. Also, what is your price range? Are you wanting something more elegant or purely functional? Do you favor a particular blade style?

My wife has three Spyderco's that she uses. A cricket, delica, and harpy along with a SAK. The pink Cricket stays in her purse all the time. It is used to open boxes, packages, and to cut the tags of of stuff. It hardly gets a second look, because of its color, until it is opened, fully serated

. The harpy and delica are used in the yard and garden. She really likes the way the teeth cut plants, open bags of garden stuff, and various other uses around the house.

It's a fine line between "a hobby" and "mental illness".

If you can find them, the Spydie Wegner Jr. and the Spydie G10 Rookie are both outstanding small daily carry knives. My first thought when I read the title of your thread was the Emerson La Griffe, then I saw you desired a folder. The Benchmade Mel Pardue 350 would be another great choice. And for the ultimate, how about a Microtech mini-Socom?

I second ptpalpha's suggestion of the G-10 Rookie. That's what I got my wife (and myself) for utility carry. They probably still have them on closeout at Smoky Mountain Knife Works for $39.99. It's a great deal and a nice little knife.

How about one of those 'lil REKAT Sifu's?

Seriously, I'd look at the Spyderco Rookie, nice blade, ATS-55 steel, nice price and a Spyderco guarantee!!!

I would recommend the Spyderco Calypso Jr

Wegner Jr. for defense and utility. My feeling And it is only MY opinion is that an untrained female would be best served by something with belly. Ever watch women or girls fight. They usually make whirling downward slashing moves with their hands. Very different from men who strike in a more linear fashion. Ever try to grab a womans arms while they are doing this whirl thing. You can get em but you miss the first few and when you get one hand you dont alway get the other. The nonsense of not giving an untrained women a knife is just that Nonsense. Just by thier natural tendency to strike like this, a slasher rather than poker is the ticket. In addition the wegner is an outstanding utility knife.

The Wegner and Jr are nice.

What about the Jess Horn ltwt?

Given many ladies clothing styles I would say lighter would be better.

My sister has a Jess Horn ltwt, and it is light enough that she can wear it on her lacey panties if she likes, and she has.

Maybe a pink delica, they are around though I don't know if she likes pink????

Even smaller is the Navigator, I carry one, and it as small as I have seen a knife that can still do serious work, and a couple of my lady friends have commented on how nice it looks.

My buddies wife carries a Viele, she loves the artistic lines of it.

My Mom carries a Boye folder with a whale on it.

May be a tad thicker than you want, but for the price, tie it to a bouquet of roses

:

CRKT Mirage Wharncliffe

Smooth as butter, elegant, excellent edge retention for AUS6 and a Wharncliffe is, IMO, the best all-round blade shape.

40 bucks US for the blade, 20 bucks for the flowers... seriously, I have more expensive blades but this one really astonished me.

Cheers,

My wife carries a Spyderco Wegner Jr, Spyderco Standard and BM mini-Stryker in her purse and various pockets pretty much all the time. Even with all of her other knives these are what she always goes back too. My sister-in-law carries her Spyderco Calypso jr LGWT we got her as a gift everywhere. This is her first knife and she says she doesn't feel "right" w/o it now. On a whole, my wife, her friends and sister seem to prefer small Spydercos over other companies for what it's worth.

She wife is petite and prefers small to mid-size knives. She loves the Ken Onion
Whirlwind (1560ST), although the handles are a little fat. She also likes her Protech SideKick Jazz, MOD Ladyhawk, BM705 Mini
Axis Lock, and Spyderco Harpy.

One requirement for all of her knives is that It's got to be comfortable in her pockets Long handled knives are uncomfortable and tend to stick out and print because of the "hips".

The first knife my wife carried was a Spydie 'Q' (one of the bug ones).
Small enough to be non-scary, fairly light, cheap (I didn't know if she'd actually carry and use it) - and the bug blade had added cuteness value.
These days she carries a small fixed blade too (one of Lynn Griffith's neck knives).

She asked me to get both of those for her.

I'd advise asking your wife what she likes - it may sound obvious, but she's more likely to carry something she picked herself.
Look at all the knives that have been mentioned, get together a few pictures and ask her to pick ones she likes the look of.
Then buy one of each - any she doesn't want go into your pockets
