Good Coating Option for Raw Steel Blades,...

I've been trying all kinds of recommended options for coatings on steel blades and found what I think is the best option yet. I have this here cheap knife I picked up about 4 months or so ago made from a file that I really like, it started rusting very quickly, I tried different oils and just found them to be messy and don't like getting it on my hands every time I handle my blade, I also tried the Tough cloth and it was rusted back up by the next morning. I've lightly sanded it down a few times with 800 grit just to clean off the surface rust, I thought, hmm, maybe I'll try some no stick frying pan spray, BAM!! problem solved, I sprayed a wet coat on both sides of the blade, let it sit for a few minutes and wiped it off, nice smooth coating that doesn't come off on your hands and works awesome. I actually stuck the blade in a leather sheath in my back room where it sat for the last 3 months, I just thought about it and pulled it out, rust free, stuff works amazing. Just wanted to throw it out there for any of you who may also be perplexed about the raw metal/patina thing with blade steels.
