My buddy had requested some fresh mullet for his birthday dinner tomorrow night. Drove down to St Joe Bay this morning with the kayak strapped to the roof. I left the rod and reel at home and took the cast net and my snorkel. Started the morning snorkeling and had picked up my limit in scallops in a couple of hours.

I had picked up a couple of mullet in the cast net before the sun got too high.

I paddled out to a pier on Buffer Preserve property to try to net some more fish.

Although the water was clear and the sun high, I still managed to net enough fish for supper tomorrow. Gonna fry some of the scallops and sauté the others in butter and garlic. Gonna smoke a few of the big mullet and fry the rest. Should make a fine meal with some cheese grits, fries and baked beans.

Been eating a lot of mullet and scallops the past week, since scallop season came in on July 1. Even netted some shrimp the other day in my brail net.

They're great in all sorts of pasta sauces, too.

That's awesome. Wish we had access to seafood like that up here...

Whereabouts are you located?
