Good deal on an older 503

Whenever I can, I try to update my newer Buck pocket knives with the older pre-symbol ones, just because I like older knives. The 503 is one of my favorite sizes for pocket carry, and I couldn't pass this up. I think the bids weren't running up on this because of the letters or symbol stamped into one of the bolsters, but is has a nice looking blade that does not seem to have had much material removed, and has the old script logo. I think the bolster stamp is too deep to sand out, but for 9 dollars and change, I'll clean it up and carry it. Any suggestions on how to partially disguise the stamp, let me know.

The bolsters look to be pretty dinged up anyway, so if it were me, I would just use a file to remove the stamp, then sand it smooth.

guitar, Thats a good buy for 9$. Buck brought out that model in early 1977. The bolsters are stainless, I'd carefully sand off the stamp using coarse, med. then fine grit paper. Take care not to flatten or dish the bolster (if you have some experience doing this). Otherwise, send it to Buck Knives and let them. They will do much more than remove the stamp. Blade is of 440C. A good find. DM

Thx guys. Yes David, that's what I did not want to do, flatten it or thin it down enough to be noticeable. It won't be here for a couple of days, so I don't really know how deep the stamp is. I did send one back to Buck for a sharpen and polish, and they did an amazing job. Then I end up not wanting to carry it and scratch it up.

I sent the old 503 to my knife repairman friend. He filled the stamp with solder, and made it scary sharp. Can't even tell the stamp was there. Good old Buck to carry.
