Horn is broken....do I need the tip of the horn? I'm not forging knives...I want it more for the flat part any way.

Back of the flat, past the hardy hole, is in rough shape.

$130 is the asking price.

Good deal or not?

I can't tell from the picture, but it looks a little sway backed... If it's pretty flat then I'd offer no more than $1.00 a pound. I'm no expert on anvils, but even here in Oregon where they are hard to come by I have bought 2 in the last 6 months for around $1.20 a pound and passed on several that were that rough...
I'd be more inclined to use SearchTempest 3-5 times a day and watch a 120-150 miles radius for a nicer anvil...
If you aren't forging, what would your use be?

I'd use it for peening bolsters, and I'm wanting to try making mokume with my HT oven and need something to smack against that isn't the back of my vise.

offer $50 if they will not take that walk away

I agree.

Looks like a chunk of the face is broken off.

Go to a scrap yard and see if you can get some drops, they can be had pretty cheap and would be great for your intended use. I paid about $50 for the three below, any of which would probably fit your needs. The one with the vise mounted on it is 18" round and ~3" thick, the one mounted to the stump is 10" round and ~4" thick, I forget what the third is.

Thanks guys.

What is a "drop" other than a round hunk of steel?

Chunks of steel left over after a raw piece is cut to the needed length.

Example: If a machine shop needs to make a shaft 21" long and the stock they order is 24" long, after they cut it to length they would have roughly a 3" drop.

I don't really use the one in the third picture, if you are interested shoot me an email. It will fit in a flat rate USPS box.
