I picked up a Buck 110 3rd version, variation 5 at a pawn shop today for $35.00 with no sheath or box. Was that a good deal? I don't know much about the vintage 110's but this is a nice knife. It has been sharpened but no big dings in the bolsters or handles and it still has good snap at closing. This one will go in my collection as the oldest 110 I have.:)

Here are some pictures of the knife.

If the blade is 100% you should do very well if you sell the knife on ebay. That is assuming you describe all the features well and provide adequate pictures as you have done here.

Eric, nice 110 and a scarce variation. Anyone know how many 5th variation 110s were made, or the duration of production? Did the single rear frame pin create warranty issues, ending its short life span:confused:

Sorry Dave!:D Does anyone have a value idea on this knife? The blade is near full but has had some sharpening. Everything else on the knife looks great. I couldn't believe it when I walked into that pawn shop and saw an old 110 in his display case! I never find anything good like this! I didn't know what version it was until I got home but I knew it was old and I had never seen the rear bolster built that way on a 110. It is definately going into my 110 collection! Any more info on this knife would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Eric

That sure looks like a nice knife to me! I could not see any details in the pictures. I could not get them to enlarge. It has the single pin holding the rear bolsters together? That is a variation you dont see very often.
Unfortunately, there are no records on how many were made of each variation. But I think that most of the early 110's were used up so anytime you find one is good condition, its a good thing.

These pics are bigger to show condition better. I don't know how to make the pictures small until you click on them to make them bigger?
It definately only has the one butt rivet although that cannot be seen in these pictures.
Thanks,
Eric

...Eric...I see your's has the larger diameter scale rivets as well...I have one exactly like it with the original sheath though. The ones with the larger scale rivets seem to be seen much more seldom than the ones with the small diameter rivet. I'm sure your's locks up like a vault too as does mine...They just seem to be an ageless knife...Mine will always be around to keep me company as well...Great knives...

You made me go back and look at mine...small inlay rivets

...My 3rd Version 5th variation is the only one of the 2 scale rivet knives I have that has the larger rivet heads...There are so many small idiosyncracies that these knives have acquired through over the years that a guy could go totally whacko trying to keep up with all of 'em...I was so perplexed by mine that I sent a buncha pics to Joe a long time ago and he mentioned the large versus small rivets on that variation. Mine also has larger pivot pin heads as well. Seems some of the 110's back then had larger holes put in the bolsters and they merely peened the rivets more to fill the larger holes...So many variations within variations...SHEEESH! ! ...:p

( wish I could take pics like Scott or Eric :()
