If any of us want a really good low volumn dewar:
About 2 1/2 weeks ago I bought this very same dewar from the same guy off Ebay. I got into a bidding battle during the final two minutes and ended up spending 81 bucks more than I could have if I only waited till the next day. He has been putting these dewars up, one at a time, since then. It is pricey, especially for a fellow like me. However, I went hard on it because I researched his claims on specifications before I decided to bid. All his claims have proven true as best I can tell. I have had LN in mine for 9 1/2 days now. I have quenched one blade for 16 hours and an entire knife (handle and all - just having fun) for 17 hours. I have tested the LN level on three day intervals. I have just finished testing the LN level (9 1/2 days since filling). It is there and too close for me to tell how much is gone, however I think I can see where some has gone. I am amazed. My dewar is kept in the basement and sets on a cool dirt floor. It may be best I set it up on a wooden pallet (?).
The nominal static evaporation rate is specified by him and those web sites I found that sell this model at 0.095 liter per day. The working time (dynamic evaporation) specified by him is 140 days and it is 135 days by some web sites and 140 by others.
The specified capacity is 20.5 liter.
There is also a 35 liter dewar currently listed on Ebay that claims 0.095 static evaporation per day but my search found one listing and it specifies that that (35HC) model as being 0.27 liter per day.
The dewar I am happy to have bought one of (model XC20 2000 Millenium) is here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2523237645&category=7321
This is the same seller I bought mine from and he shipped without shipping costs because I had bought it at a price equal to or greater than 350 bucks (I paid $431 because I didn't know he had more to post after that one
). After I bought mine, I watched one of his go for less than $300.
Who knows if this is the last one he has? He has been putting them up one at a time as he sells them off.
EDIT: I should say that there is a label on the dewar that warns not to over fill to the point that LN resides in the neck area; something to do with comprimising the factory pulled vacuum.
