i am active duty military and i am looking for a good duty knife.

i am looking for something to stand up to some very harsh conditions.
(not too many for us intel guys though ;) )

i have not much preference with either auto or manual or assisted. and i am legal to carry auto.

i have taken a liking to s30v blade steel, but any other reccomendations would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,

Kyle

Welcome and thanks for your service.

I'd take a good look at the ZT line form Kershaw. Designed for LEO and Military. Specifically I'd look at the ZT0500 MUDD. A manual flipper from Grant and Gavin Hawk's custom line, the best feature of this knife is a completely sealed pivot. NOTHING gets inside it. I have buried one in the mud, rinsed it off, and not a problem at all. Blademaker here (Gavin Hawk, the designer) has posted a video showing him digging one up that he buried in sand. Still no problems. It's big enough to handle anything you throw it, 154CM steel, and features their patented Hawk Lock. Lifetime no questions asked warranty from Kershaw. ZT also makes a few autos, along with some assisted openers and other manual flippers.

You can find more info on this and the other ZT knives in the Kershaw Manufacturer's forum. The link is at the top of this page. Drop by there and ask, and not only will you get real use reviews, you'll get some nice pictures, too.

i assume you are looking only for a folder?

how much do you want to spend? size? lock type?

the zt line is very nice, and reasonably priced. emerson and strider make great folders that may suit your needs.

so i assume u want a folder...?
my emerson CQC7 should arrive tmr. im excited.
i think striders are overpriced.
ZT0200 would suit you

thanks for a great recommendation.

my only reserve would be the blade strength, is 154CM steel as strong or wear resistant as some others? i just saw a nice spyderco military with s90v. little expensive though.

Spyderco Salt Series. Probably the Pacific Salt. Steel won't rust and its nice and light and thin, but with all of the spyderco quality.

154 cm is fine steel.

you can get a spyderco military in s30v for around $130 or so.

just ordered a Spyderco Military S30V in black with comboedge.

got it for $111 but i had to over night it for $40, i hate waiting ;)

154CM is very good steel. I would recommend yu take a look at the Benchmade Rukus or mini-Rukus: S30V steel and G1- scales.

i think you'll be very happy. i have 3 millies, great knives. light, comfortable to carry, solid lockup, and spydie sharp!!

Check out the Benchmade Full Size Grip. It opens as fast as an auto, closes with one hand and Benchmade gives military and leos a discount.

I used to carry autos on duty and thought they were cool at first but you either needed your other hand or your leg to close it which became a drag.

i am going to be stationed at Hill AFB utah.
my job is a 1N031- Ops Intel

i have a Benchmade 9100 Auto-Stryker , but its all jacked up currently. ( Bad sharpener)

and i also recently bought a sharpmaker and the Ultra fine rods. cant wait to get my knifes scary sharp.

zt mudd
spyderco military
benchmade ruckus

all great knives

thanks for your service

Id go with the Spyderco Military, its so light, fast, such as great slicer, stabber and its so damn and comfortable to use. I love mine and it would fit your needs well, with the S30V. I got mine for 114 plus shipping. Good luck with it.
