I bought my father the orange delica 4 he loves it, carries it with him all the time.

Dragonfly and Delica are both good choices -- unless your Dad likes the assisted open feature of his Leek. In which case another Leek is a possibility or a Kershaw Echelon or Knockout (though both are a bit larger than the Leek). If assisted open is not a concern, the Kershaw Speedform II is (I think) a really nice looking knife.

Yep, if dad doesn't want to retire his old Leek, I think that says something. New Leek gets my vote but I'm sure he'd appreciate any thoughtful replacement from his son...

Good luck, OP! :)

If he likes a gentlemans knife that isn't even questionably illegal to carry, I vote a Buck 110. I he needs something that will take punishment, look to other suggestions because that's by no means the best knife out there. I think it looks amazing though and is the one knife I own that I'm not afraid ill get bugged about.

Edit: read your post wrong. I still think he'd like the buck but if he actually does like the leek than I suggest another kershaw. If you think he'd use it then I'd get one with a stronger lock though. Liner locks are the weakest usually. I thought you said he refuses to use the leek for some reason so I looked for a different one.

Btw does he have a ccw? It says your in Jersey! I didn't think assisteds were Allowed to everyone there.

My dad loves the Spyderco Delica.

I gave him a native, then a Delica.
He lost his Delica and bought himself another one.

I'm in NJ too, and this is the "no switchblade" language in the statute (which is -- I think -- the only provision that might apply to assisted open knives:

"Switchblade knife" means any knife or similar device which has blade which opens automatically by hand pressure applied to a button, spring or other device in the handle of the knife.

The pressure applied on an assisted open knife is not applied to any part of the "handle of the knife" nor does the knife actually open "automatically". It opens with pressure applied to the blade and only a portion of the opening is in any way automatic. At least, I hope that's what the statute means. Federal law also distiguishes between switchblades and assisted open knives, which I think also helps that reading.

BUT this is just my personal view and is not intended as any kind of legal advice.

If he wants another assisted opener I would get him a new leek. If he is open to other knives, the Spyderco Dragonfly is a great choice and so is the Delica. If you are going for another assisted opener in that size, take a look at the benchmade emissary, it is like a more sophisticated leek. If you can go slightly larger and want better blade steel in a tough little package take a look at the Benchmade Mini Barrage 586 which is also assisted opening.

If he really likes the leek you could get him a Composite Blade Leek or Composite Blade Leek Blem. Spyderco Delica's a great choice. Benchmade Mini or Regular Griptilians are great too.

If he broke the blade, Kershaw has a blade replacement program for I think $15. I would just talk him into sending it in and getting it repaired, it sounds like he really loves the Leek. You can probably get it repaired whether its the blade or another problem. Though a replacement leek while that one is getting repaired would be in order if you wanted to get him a new knife, this way he has a backup. If it ain't broke don't fix it (can you see the irony there lol).

Thanks for the feedback guys, i think im gunna get him the delica and btw if anyone was wondering the spring for the opener is broken(how that happened idk)
