I'm in the market for a first BUSSE, something between an Izula II and an ESEE 3 size and blade thickness wise.
Not looking to break the bank.
Scales are a must.
I know sheaths aren't included unless I luck into one second hand.
Infi would be cool, but other durable kin steels would be fine.

What do I want?
Pics would be great, comparison pics with an Izula II would be even better...

I'm thinking something like the Busse Game Warden might be the ticket. You might able to find a picture online next to an Izula II.

I found this photo online so it isn't mine. Hope it's okay to use it. The 2 knives to the left of the Izula II are Busse Game Wardens...

The new battle grade offerings are Busse classics reborn in SR-101. So far they have released the Active Duty and AMS in the size range you are looking for. Both are awsome, the AMS is a little thinner if you are looking for a slicer. Watch the exchange, they both can be had cheaper now than they will be in the future. I have seen some on there for less than new cost. I am guessing you can get one for $150-$180 which is a deal when an Infi version will be about 2x that price. A lot of people actually prefer the SR-101 in the smaller blades.

I really enjoy the Battle Grade Active Duty offerings that came out mid-2015. Examples will come up on the exchange pretty frequently. The only other smaller Bussekin blade I have is the Gentleman's knife. Cool knife for eating steak but probably not what you're looking for from the sounds of it.

I agree with ClampDaddy, the RS handle is much more comfortable than the AD to me. And the blade is a tick longer. Definitely one of my favorites.

How come?

research it in the forum, I am an infi fan, but there are a lot of threads on the value of each. basically SR-101 performs as well minus the corrosion resistance or infi. a lot of guys say that the SR-101 actually holds an edge better for on smaller working knives and that you don't see the advantages in infi until you get into the larger blades.

I like the new mean street ergo, and you can get one in both INFI and SR101;)

The Game Warden is great, but the blade profile may be so similar to the Izula that it could be fun to try something else. Here's a side by side with the Anniversary Mean Street (AMS).

As for INFI v SR101, I would definitely go INFI if it's in the budget. SR101 is excellent, especially in the hands of Jerry and crew. However IMO SR101 is like a nice New York Strip steak. If treated well, it can meet all your steak needs. Even surprise you with how good it is. However, there's always going to be something just a little more special about RibEye. :).

I forgot about the new Mean Street Ergo, another excellent choice for a knife that will cut similarly to an Izula. The active duty is an awesome knife, its just more robust and doesnt slice quite as well as the mean streets.

Unless of course it's a Boney AD,,, ;)

Rodent 3, rodent solution, game warden, active duty, mean streets---these are all excellent suggestions. For small knives, the rodent 3 suits me fine.

As far as INFI vs SR101, for knives in this size range, you would be fine with either one. Also, depending on budget constraints, you would save some money with SR.

Acquiring a sheath is no problem and easy to do. Actually, a member here: Dave Brown, makes sheaths and does very nice kydex work.
