I am going to be etching my label on my blades, can anyone here recommend a good etcher, price is no issue but if you know of a DIY method, I'm all ears...or eyes since it's the internet. Thank you in advance.

Personalizer, and personalizer plus. The plus is supposed to be faster. I have been using the original for about 5 yrs. now no problems.

Thanks JBS, also another question, does etching actually leave an significant imprint/indentation in the steel or does it just leave a shallow mark?

It gets in there .008 - .01 deep which is plenty. If you get your stencils from Ernie he can send you a photo of how to check your depth, it works.

Check out my DIY electro-etcher web page.

Don't forget to click on the link to the electrical schematic at the bottom of the page.

Thanks logem, that is a great turtorial:thumbup:. Unfortunatly for me, everytime I look at a schematic, or try to learn electronics in any way the left side of my brain deflates and I lose consiousness:confused::o;). But thanks for the idea:D.

I built my own etcher. Cost me absolutely nothing. An old 9-12v 1 amp dc and 1 amp ac charger, or there abouts. Plug them in negative leads to the pad. positive to the blades. If you care about function which i did you can put them in a box with toggle switches to switch the output between one pad. The pad is just a piece of SS with felt over it soaked with salt water.

Not to blow my own horn, but I have sold a dozen of mine here on BF, and now sell them through TheSharpenerShop.com. It's 12v AC/DC and comes with everything you need, except the stencil. I'm experimenting with laser toner as a resist instead of a stencil.

If you want to build your own, search for DIY etcher here and I've got step by step plans for mine.
