A mere week after a pleasant & helpful conversation with the gracious Yangdu, my first HI Khukri, a 15'' ANG KHOLA, is in my hands. I've been using a utilitarian BK&T a good bit & will continue to do so, but the thing is too long to pack along when I'm knocking around the woods & the style factor just isn't there.
Anyway, Yangdu told me about the forum & I've been reading the threads back to about a year ago. You guys look to be a pretty good bunch to hang out with so here I am.

Welcome; how much does the Ang Khola weigh? The 15" is a great knife. I have a lightweight 18" that's almost equal to a heavy 15"- they vary, sometimes a bunch.

Welcome Uplander. :D The 15" AK was the first khuk that Uncle Bill sent me so long ago but I had already made up my mind that I needed an 18" AK. When the 15" Shop 1 AK got here I gave it to my dear wife Barbie and already had an 18" on order.

Don't be misled.

These people are enablers.

Your 15in AK will be a wonderful companion: loyal, trust-worthy, and, like most inanimate objects endowed with a spirit, give you strength beyond your normal range.

Have fun, and always wear protection....er....read the safety thread.

Welcome! The people here are really the salt of the earth. You couldn't have found better people or better Kuks!

My welcome to you as well Uplander! That 15" AK is a great model to start with, and I'll bet comes right in at 20-22 oz. Handy enough to tote easily but strong enough to do some real work.

Take a peek at the HI web site and you'll see lots more to interest you, plus there is a great picture thread started recently with folks posting pictures of their knives.

Stick around, there's a lot to learn and really great people here.

Welcome. Now just practice saying, "My name is Uplander, and I am a khukuholic." :)

welcome..great choice on first of many..15 inch ak and 16.5 ww2 were the start of my khuk addiction,, let us know how you like it and what you want next..

Thanks for the welcome guys. My computer runs on coal, my skills with it are just as primitive, & my camera is a 22 yr. old EOS650 so a description will have to suffice:
15" Ang Khola w/sisu wood handle, the kharda & chakmak are well matched to it. Texture & color of the wood is a lot like French walnut. Left/right symmetry is remarkably good, wood/metal fitting is too. 5 min. with a butcher's steel put shaving edges on ea. the khukri & kharda. I'll copy or trace the markings engraved on the blade & e-mail them to Yangdu, I'd like to know the name of the kami who made it.
Didn't get a chance to try it out today, too many chores to get in before tomorrow's rain. However, the dawn's gonna show a brand new day & I'm taking off & hittin' the woods.

Welcome, i'm glad you're here. :)

I like my 15" AK allot and use it and a BAS most. I perfer my 18" Gelbu or M 43 but the AK and BAS are in the garage and work for just about everything.
