Good files for sharpening or tinkering ?

Been needing to purchase some files for modifying blades (like dropping a point on an Opinel), and reprofiling axes and machetes, and well....tinkering. I've worn a Mexican Nicholson pretty good, and was wandering what is better. I know some speak highly of PFERD, and the Bahco brand that are made in Portugal.

IDK, I looked around and found out that the Nicholsons still appear to be the best thing. I have two or three of the 12 inch bastard files. I have only used one of them and that one has done one ax and two complete reprofiles on a 28 inch machete. Still seemed sharp to me the last time I used it. Honestly though, I would use a bench grinder for modifying spines, if you can keep the blade cool. Or you could use a belt sander but it will take a lot longer. You can do it with a file, I guess, but you better prepare to spend several hours at it. If you have the patience, go for it!

Meh, I'm just looking for something to tinker with. I'm going to start acquiring nicer tools, in particular hand tools, and am not satisfied with my Nicholson file, the teeth didn't last too long. I've been messing with these cheap, Rough Rider folder kits that require a bit of filing as well. Nothing hardcore, but stuff like that, and maybe Opinels, I enjoy messing with them, also I'd like a good rasp for wood working. I'm also looking to start on making my first knife, and have steel on the way for that project, but that's a whole other sub-forum. Hmm, Glardon haven't heard of em, look like quality, also I've heard of Grobert I'll look at those a bit more too. Still, for the money Pferd files look like a good option.
