I'm looking for a good fillet knife, must be solidly built and made from strong steel, would like to keep it under 50, but all suggestions welcome.

I've heard the Leech Lake fillet knife is the best, cannot confirm that because I usually use an electric. I use Rapalas when there is no juice. Good post waiting to hear what others have to say.

My newest is a Browning . I like it better than the rapalas for the same price.

I prefer the old wood handled Rapalas to any others that I have tried.Their pretty cheap and I can get them crazy sharp,no problem.

Ive had several Rapalas over the years. The last one I bought is hard to sharpen and doesnt stay sharp. It doesnt even look the same. The steel is more chrome looking. I dont know if they changed steels, started manufacturing in China or what, but its noticeably different.

I use a Mora "Clipper" model, while technically not a fillet knife, none of the fish complained. :)

I agree with bigcountry1315, the Cutco Fisherman's Solution is excellent and it's blade size is adjustable (6-9 inches, I believe). I have "filleted" more wild hogs and deer than fish with mine. You can also get extra blades for it.

I looked up those cutco fishermans solutions and realized thats the fillet knife my inlaws have sitting in their closet, i'll have to snag it sometime.

Dexter Russell V-Lo. Super-ergonomic and good high-carbon steel. Runs $20 to $30 without sheath.

They started manufacturing in China.
I remember reading a press release, though I can't find it at the moment.
The older ones are Martiini blades made in Finland, I believe.

Guyon is right the older ones are Finnish Martiini blades. I use the ones my Grandaddy handed down to my old man after he passed. If you like the older ones I bet you could find some around for a good price.

Try a BUCK Lakemate or if you like something longer the Oceanmate. If you cant tell, you will after talking to me, I'm a Buck knife fan...

i have one rapala that i dont like. it came out of the box dull and took me some time to get it manable. i use that knife to cut through bone. my fillet knives are all gerbers. one 6inch and two 9 inch i believe. they work well for the money.
