I live in Tennessee and we can't have a knife with over a 4" blade in our vehicle useless we are going camping, hunting etc.

I am looking for a fixed blade knife, less then a 4" blade, serrations, glass breaker, under $100 and made in the USA. Right now I have my eye on the Esee-3, are there any other knives that fit my criteria.

Hi Cold,

Welcome to BF! I would suggest just keeping something like a MORA handy in the Car. I believe there are a few models with blade length just under four inches. MORA's are great knives (especially for the money). You would have yourself a nice knife and in the process, you could save yourself about eighty dollars. Check out Baryonyx Knives (a Blade Forums member) who has a nice selection of MORA knives at very reasonable prices.

Regards,

Seconded. I keep a morakniv in the car. Reliable, functional, and perfect price for what is intended.

Ok, I have a couple mora companions but they aren't serrated or have a glass breaker.

That scorpion looks cool but I'll probably go with someting more conventional since it will either be in my jeep or my F-250 and would get some use in the woods from time to time.

For what you are talking about, the ESEE-3 is as good as it gets for $100.

Unless you're going to be carving with it, a lot, I'd highly recommend the serrated ESEE. Their serrations are unique, and can be sharpened on a standard flat sharpening system, and they really cut well through rope, seatbelts, etc. if you are in a hurry.

Being a throw it in the car knife I would opt for a more stainless rust resistant steel...

I hear ya...the scorpion doesn't look conventional at all...I don't own one and i only read 2 reviews but they where both good ,couldn't find to much info on it !! I was also looking for a smaller fixed blade i could leave in the car but i was trying to come up with an interesting way to mount it so it was secure and at hands reach. I own an Esee 3 and its a great knife if that what you end up with...

I personally would go with the ESEE-3 or RAT-3. Never worried too much about blade length in TN. But, carrying the >4" knife in downtown Knoxville or Nashville is a different story.

Even if it's left in the car, I believe it is intent to go armed if you are not out hunting, camping, etc...(for blades over 4")

My vote goes for the ESEE. They are great knives and a solid investment. They'll do whatever you want.

If you haven't yep please contact your state rep / governor and ask them to support the TN switch blade repeal.

Sent Haslam an email a couple days ago asking him to repeal the ban.

ETA: I just saw that the bill would eliminate the 4" blade limitation. I was not aware of this, good to know.

I guess my comment is that I seldom carry a knife with the "intent ot go armed". How about transporting said knife from the store? My carry knife is a SAK. :D I think you'll like the ESEE-3. My comparable knife is the Kabar Becker BK-24. It is more money when you consider that you probably need a better sheath and handles and I don't think they make those partially serrated.

Cold One, when I intend to go armed, I carry a gun. And yes.... I really am intending to be armed and lethal. If I am worried about the part of town I am forced to be in, I often carry two firearms. There is no mistaking my intentions.

I just realized that you are probably pre-21 or a firearm may not be an option. In which case, I think you are on safe ground with your choice.

How would law enforcement know that you are not headed to do a trail down in the Smokies or headed for the woods?
