Good Fixed Blade?

Short and simple, I am taking suggestions on a 4"(or so)fixed blade for last ditch defense. The 4" is for legal reasons and the fixed blade is due to the fact that I don't believe the fine motor skills needed to draw, open, and lock a folder are available to one in a crisis. This is in the unlikely event that both:

plan a)pepper spray(for less than lethal)

&

plan b)the .40

should fail me. I am looking for quality, durability, and reliability above all else but do not want to spend a fortune on a custom work of art. It doesn't have to look good or be comfortable, it just has to cut. I am looking for a workhorse not a showhorse. Any suggestions or experiences are welcome. Thanks to all, great site you've got here.

Thanks Drac!!

I just finishes "stretching" the Tanto Neck Knives!! The pic above is the original size (3.5"blade). I just finished several that have 4"and 4.5" blades. All my D2 knives are Cryo treated and triple tempered. ANY blade finish or handle material is available including a skeletonized, bead blasted version.

EDIT: pictures of the new length Tantos will be on the website soon along with more Hawkbills!!!!

Sigh...
Benchmade Nimravus Cub in M2 steel.
Great knife, great sheath and IMO a great value.
This assumes, of course, that you are looking for a factory made piece.
Also look at the Fallkniven F1. A truly outstanding little knive made in VG10 steel. They come with a kydex sheath now, I believe.
Happy hunting!

So, what IS the speed of dark?

I'll second the Fallkniven. Feels good in the hand and appears almost unbreakable. And if you lose it, you're not out much.

I'll second the vote for Neil Blackwood's knives. Top quality, great value, and phenominal customer service. Also take a look at Lynn Griffith's site-he specializes in the "tactical" genre of fixed blades, and has many well-designed models to choose from.

Dr.Lathe, I like the look of those!

Very nice! What do you have under the wrap?

Is the wrap epoxy soaked?

Who did the picture for you?

Again, nice looking knives!

Arizona,
I'm looking forward to hearing from you!

Darrel,
A compliment from a long time, well known maker means ALOT to me! Thanks!!!

Gary and PTP,
Thanks! Under the epoxy coated wrap is anodized Titanium. They are double hollow ground with a convex tip.
I took the picture with my 20 year old Pentax. The background is a plastic pool chair!! I usually get one good picture out of a roll of film and this was one of them!!

Lynn Griffith's "Back Up Series" might appeal to you. Small, tough, and sharp. Lynn is also a real treat to work with, and will make sure you are happy with your piece.

Neil,

Very nice looking work and good prices. If I could add my 2 cents...please add prices to every knife listed. Only about half of them show the price. Please loose the music, first time you hear it, ok and then I turn it off. Then when I go look at a knife and hit the back arrow, it restarts and gets annoying before I have a chance to look at all the knives. YMMV

Go Look at the new camillus Bob T knife.. NICE
Dr..... Flattery will get you no where .. If its good why not be honest and say its good. I like the hole things you do to with the curves.. KEWL knives. Can you post them? The ones on the Shop talk forum.. please ?

Darrel, This is the one from the shop talk post, I call it the LiteWave.....
crlw.jpg

I just finished two of them with black G10 handles. One had anodized Ti. scales under the G10!
I have lots of work to do on my website! I will loose the music this weekend when I put up some new pictures. Pricing will also be added on ALL the knives. I have to teach my wife HTML code so I can just work on the knives!!!!!

In what jurisdiction are you going to be carrying your fixed blade? In most jurisdictions a "concealed dagger" is very politically incorrect, and you will be dealing with the legal system if you have to use your knife in a defensive situation, God forbid.

A small "hunting knife" or "utility knife" in a belt sheath that happens to be covered by a loose shirt or jacket may be easier to explain than something that says "boot knife," "ninja knife," or otherwise "clandestinely concealed dirk or dagger." Visible traces of packing tape on the blade probably can't hurt.

In factory knives, the Spyderco Moran FB01 is of modest size and utilitarian marketing, and has a versatile kydex sheath that can ride high. The Fallkniven F1's kydex sheath is meant to ride lower, as are most North Country knives in the "puukko" class. Those are knives from cultures where it was traditional, at least until recent decades in the big city, to openly carry a working knife that would not normally be seen as a weapon, but could serve that purpose in a pinch.

Bud Worell makes a nice custom that looks rather nice and might work. Want to really handle one of those myself
