Good fixed blade?

What are some good fixed blade kinves with a 3-5 inch blade? I will be using it for hunting and camping chores such as field dressing deer and preparing food. Also I don't want to pay much more than $100 for it. Thanks in advance, Bob

absolute best hunting/skinning knife

All the replies in that thread meet your criteria. Check them out. Simply put, Any of the Marbles Hunters in 52100, any of the Fallkniven fixed blades, the Cold Steel Master Hunter, and the Spyderco Moran would serve you very well.

I'll say it again-give GenO Denning a call. First class workmanship, at hard-to-beat prices. Also, keep a close eye on the For Sale forum. This morning I just picked up nice RO Easler hunter for $100. Another one to check out is Rob Ridley at Ranger Original Knives. Rob's a great guy, and his prices and quality of work are outstanding. Edward R Schott is another one. Keep searching, and don't think you can't get a great custom knife on a budget!

Grohmann, super comfortable and can be had at a decent price.

Marble's for a more traditional pattern, incredibly sharp, great steel, great choice of patterns, excellent customer service.

Fallkniven, more wonderful blades.

If some of those don't work, go custom...you won't be sorry.

Like Tom said, ditto but do not rule out Buck knives.

A Pathfinder (model 105) AND a Buck Skinner will run you under $100 and the two knives will hold an edge, collectively, as well if not better than high end knives. Besides, if you lose one, you still have a knife.

I think you can get one of Allen Blade's MEUK knives in bead blasted and coated 1095.

If you want to go cheap ($10), don't overlook the Frosts or Ericksson blades from Mora, Sweden. Nothing fancy, just good tough cutters.

Easy, just check out any of Delta Z's (ok, it's my company) fixed bladed knives with very high quality Italian leather sheaths, and full tang construction combined with hi-grade German Steel 1.4116. Excellent.

Good luck and take care.

call me ignorant in the world of knives, but my Uncle Henry Golden Spike (about $40.00 at Walmart) and a Spyderco Sharpmaker (About the same off the net from 1stop here at Bladeforums, discountknives, etc) should set you up in great form. I doubt many here would believe it, but I have done things to this blade that have destroyed many others. As I have mentioned in the past, I use my knives hard, just as I do the many of other tools that I own. I want to justify a Busse #5 in the worst way, but I think I know what would happen to it, and THAT would reallly get to me!

One of Fällkniven fixed blades, F1 if you prefer 4-inched blade or S1 if you prefer somewhat bigger knife.

SPYDERCO Bill Moran Featherweight is somewhat smaller than F1 and noticeably lighter.

BENCHMADE Nimravus is sized between Fällkniven F1 and S1.

Choose which you like better. All are very good knives, you can't go wrong with either.

I suggest Benchmade Nimravus Cub.

Solid; weight and blade length fits all my needs.

I've kept mine as all-weather hiking knife and hasn't put me down.

You can purchase a Corbet Sigman custom guardless in carbon steel with sheath for $80 plus shipping. You absolutely cannot have a better using fixed blade knife! I have purchased six of his Utility hunters which are the same except for a nickel silver guard.
