I'm looking for military/tactical look fixed blade and i would like to hear your opinions from following ones. I'm quite new with subject so i don't know much:( .

Cold Steel OSS CS-38SSC

Cold Steel UWK CS-38UW

Ka-Bar Black Fighter KA-1271

Ka-Bar Desert Fighting Knife

Ka-Bar KBD1 KA-1273

Ka-Bar U.S.M.C. Next Generation KA-1224

Ka-bar USMC Fighting Knife KA-1211

SOG Gov - Tac

It's primary for my small collection and is not likely used much.
Which manufacturer you will recomend? Which blade have best cost/quality ratio?

Thanks for answers.

For a collection? Get the Gov-Tac. You will appreciate the extra details when handling it. (handle with white and red spacers...blade grinds...etc...)

All the guys does on knifetests.com is destroy knives. There is nothing scientific about about what Noss does to knives. THAT is NOT a god site to judge a knife by at all.

Out of the list you give I would take any ka bar over cold steel any day. I heard of quality problem at cold steel and the way they push products turn me off. Ka bars have been good for the money. I have a marine combat knife. This knife, was my first knife bought by me. Never had a problem with it being 1095 steel in woods of New England (rusting). I lived in Taxachusetts until I turned 17. I also agree with TKC, Noss just destroys a knife and then write a "science back" report on how it is just no good. I beat it into a cinder block five times before the blade chipped!!!:jerkit:

Definitely take a look at http://knifetests.com/. He doesn't get involved with all the technical steel specs that a lot of folks like, just plain use / abuse.
He NEVER claimed to provide scientific controlled test data, just plain ole usage, which should be good for most of us, except the so-called purists.
Noss, keep up the fine work.
Thanks
JGarth ....

If the knife is for collecting or Accumulating or "just lookin at", maybe find one of the Camillus USMC knives? Since Camillus is now out of business, I think that would be more interesting and collectible than a current-production KaBar or Cold Steel.

You might also take a look at the Bark River Sandstorm. High quality, and not mass-produced by the millions.

The Becker Knife and Tool fixed blades would have fit your criteria perfectly, before the prices went sky-high. :(

If looking for "bang for the buck", you might consider the Buck Nighthawk. I have two and love the ergonomics and design. They also get favorable reviews from people who actually use them.

Happy Shopping,
-Bob

Since it's mostly for collective purposes best choice is KaBar USMC fighting knife. With the traditional brown leather handle.

For collective purposes, I'd go with USMC Ka-Bar because of it's history. And, if you ever need to grab a knife for serious work, it'll actually be up to the task. It's not just pretty. I also like the idea of the Camillus USMC knife.

I'd go with Ka-bar USMC Fighting Knife KA-1211. The Kraton handle is no maintenance compared to the leather of the regular model and has in my opinion better grip.

I also agree with the Kabar.
If you like the stacked leather washer handles, you could also pick Marbles, or SOG, too...

Regards,
Mike

I know J-P Peltonen Ranger puukko, but i have thinked something else. If i change my mind it's easy to go to centrum and just buy one.

I probably buy that Ka-bar USMC. Still have to choose between traditional leather and black kraton models. Kraton might be more practical, but leather one is classic.

Thanks for so many good replies:) .

If you can do it, for about $75 you can take a look at the Cold Steel Recon Scout. Still made from high carbon steel, unlike the other CS knives on your list. Those are made from that cheap 4116 Krupp Stainless.

Regards

Out of the choices on YOUR list, I would choose the Ka-bar. In fact, I would tell you to buy anything BUT the Cold Steel knives. I happening to very much like the Next Generation Ka-Bar's.
