Good flipper around $200

I have some basic Spyderco lock backs (endura and dragon fly) and a couple Benchmade axis lock knives (contega and griptillian) in the folder category but wanted to look into eventually getting a custom flipper. Before I look in the above $500 range I wanted to look at what is a good flipper to see how much I like them in the roughly $200 or less range. Looking for something ergonomic (no obnoxious sharp edges etc) roughly 3-3.5”. Not crazy picky on steel type to try out as long as decent and specified on type.

Currently considering the Massdrop ferrum forge ones, maybe Kizer etc. What other options are good and not hard to get ahold of?

ZT's are pretty much all flipper now. And have them pretty dialed in. I've also had great luck with the Massdrops/FF's. As well as the few Kizers I've purchased. I have a Kizer with north of 15k flips on it (little ADD/OCD issue). Still ultra smooth with solid lockup.

I wear medium sized gloves and the massdrop Falcon is excellent ergonomics for the money. I prefer a forward grip from the choil. I believe the ZT 0450 is a nice flipper but it has a very thin profile that I don’t find very ergonomic. Personally the bang for buck in my mind is the ferrum forge/WE/MD collaboration. Falcon and the Crux are my preferred.

I wanted to say something from reate... But iirc the only one they have in that price bracket is the hills. I hear it's good. But if you want to go full in I'd suggest getting one you like from the brand. You'll likely never buy the custom. Whole bunch of designers are using them.

With that said if you want something cheap j, ust to try out. I got a Real Steel Control 3605F on sale a little while after it came out. It's currently around the price you mentioned. S35vn, Titanium and marbled carbonfiber. Not sure if your into the design. But it's a decent flipper and can also be used with thumbstuds.

One I want to recommend but the blades around 4" is the real steel megladon.

ZT is nice and all for flippers...but if you’re thinking about going to the 350-450+ range, just stop and save a bit and go there.

Kershaw Bareknuckle, used ZT (I recommend 0562 or a 0470 if you can find a slightly used or display model as I did).
Spyderco Amalgam, although some may say it's not as good a flipper as a ZT, imo it is, it just has a different feel.

My civivi plethiros flips great as well, so civivi is another option.

I will eventually go to the $500+ range, but for now I just want to know what general features I like on a cheaper model. Also things that interest me higher up in price range are somewhat hard to get ahold of. Like the idea of the holt or Koenig Arius but want to be sure first.

+1 on the LionSteel KUR. Built like a tank, great ergonomics, and a fast - smooth flipping action.

I find my Kizer Dukes to be my most satisfying flipper. I have the g10 version, but they made a titanium version also.

I assume you mean nothing better in terms of flippability? Everything I've read indicates the 0450 is mediocre in terms of ergonomics and sliceability.

Nothing better in terms of “flippability” for the money. If price wasn’t a concern I’d go for a ZT 0801, (since it has the same great action, and it’s quite a bit beefier which makes it easier to cut things), but the 0801 is about $60 more. The 0450 is a perfect gentlemen’s folder so to speak, and the 0801 is the perfect workhorse...for the money you can’t buy better knives imo

Drop x Laconico Keen

They’re around $150, great ergonomics, ground to cut, good flippers. Built by WE.

Second vote for WE built Ferum Forge Massdrop knives. I have the Falcon and Crux. Both are excellent flippers.

Put in an order for one of the crux ff/we built Massdrop ones the other day. Figure it’s a decent buy for the money. Eventually I will look into a higher end us made flipper if I like the crux.

Anything Reate produced for your price range. Drop Raine is a new beauty from Lambert/Drop...Ochs work w/ Drop is also awesome. I also love my WE built Drop knives like the Keen. Can't go wrong with the 0450 either, though...
