I know there is a thread on bullet proof pants but i was looking for something else. I am going to be doing lots of theme park / travel this summer and jeans are a bit to hot and they dont dry out fast, i would prefer something a bit more breathable and w/ more pockets. I was thinking about regular JI pants w/ a cotton polly blend. they always seem to dry out fast, RR 511's i like alot 'cause of the pockets but i can never seem to get them to fit right, the crotch seems to low and they are the same size (32/32) as my Jeans. Thoughts please.

You might try checking out an outdoor store such as Galyans, REI, Bass Pro etc... Look into pants that are made for hiking. They are generally light weight material that will dry quickly. They are often not cotton and made form some synthetics and are not real cheap but they should suit your purpose very well. They are often available as zip offs as well and you can wear them as pants or shorts.

Here are a few from the REI website:

linen pants with an open weave - can't get any better than that. Nearly see-thru, though...

After getting a great deal on a pair of linen pants last year, I've bought a pair whenever I've found them. I've got 3 pairs now and all of them are more comfortable during hot days than any other pair of pants. Definitely have the "beachcomber" look to them too -- with linen pants and a linen shirt I feel like a J. Crew ad!

Rohan Bags if you can get them in the States.

Featherlight, lots of pockets, well-made and they roll up to the size of a Coke can for travel.

Part for comfort, part cause i have gotten cold after getting wet at one of these parks. W/ shorts i run into the same problem though, they wet and three hours later they are still soaked. That and i do have incredibly white, hairy, birdlike legs. JK, While i do need a tan my legs are in proportion to the rest of my bod, left over from 6 years of Jiu-jitsu + kickboxing

Nothing beats comfort and utility in the heat like a Utilikilt. Airy and lots of room in the side pockets. It's not for most men, as most men are concerned with how they appear in public. Too many "manly" men don't have the cajones to wear one in public. If someone else is embarassed looking at you, it's their fault, not yours.

Comfort is paramount in a Utilikilt. Going "Commando" or "Regimental" is as free as you can get. Only problem with hiking might be the easy access for insects as well. Such is life, though.

Check 'em out. www.utilikilts.com

The priceline is about $130 and if they are not in stock, you might have to wait about 8 weeks, but other than that, they are fantastic.

Best part is... Women love them. A man in a UK is a confident man. And... they love the access.

Happy kilting,
Ed

Just stay away from the heavy Duck Cloth Workmans's they don't vent well. Haven't had the chance to wear the new Survivor UtiliKilt in the Summer heat yet, but I don't think they'll be an issue.

I'll second that.

He's absolutely right, and I'll add my voice to the chorus of happy UK wearers. In fact, I even wore one to my wedding.
I'll even provide photographic proof.

Hope no one's eyes are put out.

I never see these listed here, but LL Beans tropical weight pants are great. Cool, lightweight, quickdry. They come in cargo and regular styles. I have worn these pants for 5-6 years and they are very durable. Good Luck

Okay, so I mentioned Utilikilts to my fiancee and she's seen them before and thinks they're "dead sexy". I can also see how the freedom of movement in a sk... um.. kilt would be quite nice. Anyone have any information on how well these things last if worn regularly (i.e. in lieu of "normal" pants)?

How tear resistant are these hiking/travel pants? Would they be like my old Nike running pants that made a swooshy noise when I walked?

Well,

I've had mine for a couple of years and the only real wear comes from the wash. The added bonus, though is that you really don't have to wash them as much as pants, they don't get as dirty as quickly. The colors will fade some, but the fabric is stout.

The ripstop UK's are thinner and lighter, great for summer wear. The Workman's are of a canvas duc cloth, which holds up real well. At first, they are like wearing cardboard, but keep wearing 'em and the break in nicely.

Since the company has only been running for four years now, there have been no real complaints that I have heard of yet.
