Already posted this on BCUSA, figured ya'll might like to see it too. :)

Today I decided to go hunting, needed to get out of the house and really wanted to put my new knife to use. Bagged two big grays, not bad considering the overwhelming hunting pressure around here.

Here's a pic of the critters and the rifle used to take them, savage .17hmr(love this caliber).

Christened my new blade with the blood of my prey, that's some fine voodoo juju there, guys.:p

Here's the heart of the squirrel I got a headshot on.

Started a small fire, cut the heart in half and put it on a stick.

All in all a great day, glad I got out, put my skills and gear to use. Feels good providing something for the family, even if it's just a couple squirrels.

It tastes great in dumplings or fried. On the grill it tastes squirrely, kinda how it smells. Most people would probably like it as long as they get the idea of it being a tree rat out of their heads.

 Awesome!!! I eat the heart of everything I possibly can! Glad I'm not alone!!!

Yeah I think I'll make it a habit. Next time I kill a deer I'll cook its heart up in a skillet over the fire.

Nice post man! I love to go hunting for small game or fowl and eat what I kill cooked over a fire while I'm still out. The heart is one of the few organs of an animal that I will eat. Nice Randall too, I'm still looking for a #1-6 that I can afford.

Bryan> Yep,nothing like a well rounded day in the woods.:D

Mist> Thanks, bud, I really wanna do some serious cooking over the fire. I'm always on the prowl for Randalls, if you like I'll let ya know when I see some good used model 1s.

Swamp>Sounds good. I had this critter fried, chipped up in gravy over biscuits.

ETA: Mist, you can also find some really rough looking Randalls and the workshop will clean it up and even regrind it for ya, they don't really charge that much for this. A fella in the randall forums did this lately and they did a damn good job, just an idea anyway.

That .17 is a real killer! Good to see you eating the fruits of your labor and not wasting the meat...

ROCK6

It is a killer, Rock, almost too much sometimes. I like it cause I can take out squirrels out past 75 yards no problem. I normally retrieve all the animals I kill unless they are infested with some sort of parasite.
