Good idea for 1SKS or other knife stores:

I don't know if this has come up before but it's an idea that I would really like to see implemented:

When a customer goes to 1SKS they could select drop down menus to get the exact product that they wanted.

You could select:
Blade size range
Blade material
Handle material
Company
Price range
Sheath
Etc etc.

Once you select from these choices, the page would return results which matched your inquiry. I know this would help me a lot and I might buy more products due to the ability to find just what I wanted.

I know this might be hard to implement. Each time a new knife was entered into the system a little list would be filled out for it so that the search could check for whatever flags popped up.

Whadda ya think? Can it be done? Anyone want to do it? Is there a site that already does it?

YES!!!!!

I was once on a site looking for binoculars. You selected what you were going to use it for, what characteristics you wanted, and at the end it presented you with 1/2 dozen that met that selection criteria.

I've been looking for a 3" "tactical folder" for my son and it's been a nightmare. If I could go to one place and search by blade length it would have saved me hours / days!

PLEASE, someone do this!

As a web professional I can tell you that stuff like that is possible, with the right software... However, stuff like that takes money. You have to pay programmers to do the work to tie all the databases and queries and such together.

I agree it is a cool feature, but it may not be cost effective for everyone.

Yeah, like AntDog said, it's possible, you just have to
1. Have a backend database
2. Tie all the fields into it that you want searchable
3. Have the money to invest in such software.

It's not cheap, unless you are going to write it yourself.

If anyone is interested in a system like this, please let me know -- I have someone who might be able to help out.

To support the above responses, YES this is definitely possible. It does involve a back-end database, though you don't *need* to have specialized software if you know people who can write the code.

One big technology used for this is ASP -- active server pages.

NO, this post is not just a shameless plug. I, for one, think this would be an *outstanding* idea. Also, because the code could be the same, even if used on different websites, some people might do well to invest together in such a thing.

Just my two cents. Ain't technology grand?
