Good Idea to sharpen my Fallkniven F1 on a Sharpmaker?

It's not a good idea to sharpen a convex edge on a "V" sharpener.

That is, assuming you want to preserve the original edge geometry.

its ok, but in time it will develop a V type edge, as opossed to what it has now, convex
the 40 setup its best IMO for that type of knife, a lower angle would make it a better cutter, but it will make the edge more fragile, and that is supposed to be a hard use/abuse :D survival knife

Well, for the next question, what should I use? I want to keep the convex edge.

Thanks, guys

to keep the convex edge, its not much what you use as is how you use it
i would recomend trying to sharpen convex/ grinding them first, some cheaper knives, to get the hang of it
its not difficult, but its different, and its better to have a good idea before you start sharpening that F1...
a flexible cloth mouse pad with fine sandpaper is a good convex sharpener
or/and a piece of leather, with some abbrasive compound
or you can have more leather strops, with different compunds, from high abbrasive to low/polish...
ussualy a bit of stropping after almost every use, using some compound on a leather strop would suffice to keep it sharp and maintain the edge
watch some videos on you tube with convex sharpening, use google for some info, or the google search in bladeforums : http://www.google.com/coop/cse?cx=011197018607028182644:qfobr3dlcra
, to get an idea on how its that convex sharpening done
it looks hard, but its not :D
anyway, lets see some other advices, since im not an expert in convex edges sharpening, as many of the members here are
cheers :D

It's okay to put a small V micro bevel on it, in fact that's how it comes, when new in the box. AND that's how it is recommended that it is sharpened on Fallkniven own homepage Link
That being said, a lot of people turn it into a full convexed knife. Me included

If you're going to use the Sharpmaker, use the 40* setting, and mark the edge bevel with a marker to make sure you're getting the actual edge. Due to the nature of a convex edge, you may even have to tilt the blade so the angle is steeper.
