Hello to all,
I live in France and I will be in San Fransisco for two weeks (10-25 july)and since you have here much more choice than
we have here, I plan to buy some knives.
Can someone give me adresses of some good knife dealers (if possible selling chris reeve knives), or costum makers in the area ?
Thank you for your answers.

François

Patrick at Triple Aught will be right across the bay from you and he always seems to have an impressive collection on hand, especially if any of the MicroTech products appeal to you. Here's his site. http://www.tripleaughtdesign.com/

Beyond that, I'd imagine that if anyone has a handle on the local S.F. custom knife scene it would be James Segura. Good luck.

Edge of the World recently moved to Brentwood (about 90 km northeast of San Francisco). I called them last weekend to find out when they were going to reopen their doors; the woman I spoke to said they should be open by the 15th, but if I was in the area, to knock on the door and they'd let me in. I like that kind of attitude. If you think you can get out to Brentwood, you might want give Edge of the World a call @ 925-240-6222.

Sadly, you will have a hard time finding anything in the city. If you are looking for CRK you might want to try We Be Knives on Pier 39. It is a tourist trap, strait retail on everything, so that means you won't pay any extra for a Sebenza, at least. They also carry a decent collection of customs. Just don't go there looking for decent prices on production pieces.

If you are able to travel a little out of town Triple Aught is in Oakland (You'll want to call first as they are not a storefront) and Paul Fox's or Carmel Cutlery in, you guessed it, Carmel.

Jim O'young has reccomended Castello's Guns in the Willow Glen area of San Jose. I have not had a chance to visit it yet, but hopefully soon.

We Be Knives isn't as bad as it looks - they cram a lot of stuff in a REAL small space.

But the #1 key thing to remember is: they haggle

.

Prices there are not as they seem, if you understand that. You still won't quite get Internet prices...in fact you're better off shopping at www.onestopknifeshop.com or other Internet discounters, having them ship everything to the California address you'll be staying at, and collecting all the goodies there

.

Seriously, that's the best plan.

This is just a suggestion, but James Segura lives IN San Francisco, and the Cris Reeve company views James as a subsidiary of theirs, as he has so many Sebenzas and Umfaans. Perhaps he would be willing to make you a deal???

I have visited We Be Knives and found it to be a lot of great knives in a little space. Also have been to Kellys Cutlery in Modesto. Great store, However I think it is a good distance from the Bay. What ever you do don't miss out on the fresh crabs! Later, Jeff

Go for the clam chowder at "Old Fisherman's Grotto" on Fisherman's Wharf in Monterey. Continue south on Highway 1 for about 60 miles for some beautiful scenery. Worth the trip. And am sure Patrick Ma would love to show you some killer stuff, from MT to CRK to custom.

But I still don't have one of the evil black Sebenzas yet, Walt

I think that Jim March's idea is an excellent one. Let me know if you need someone to act as a "mail drop", the Opera House is right across the street from City Hall and easy to find.

Thank you for your friendly proposition, but I will be invited there by a friend, I'll use his adress if I buy via internet. My project is to contact Darrel Ralph and ask him if he can
send a medium apogee to the shop called "triple aught design" between the 9 and 24 July. I hope that this will work.
Kind regards,
François
