Any recommendations for a good knife for a tackle box? Can be a fixed or folder. Will be used in fresh and salt water.

If you don't need a fishfinder (or don't have a boat on which to mount it), the Spyderco Salt series are awesome. The H1 steel never rusts, which is the usual fate of tacklebox knives.

Something from the Spyderco salt series would be pretty great. :)

9 is spot on here, spydercos salt knives are perfect for a tackle box. They are pretty much impervious to rust and they are very light weight and very durable. H1 steel is softer than most steels but sharpens extremely easy. The only other knife I will add is benchmades H2O griptilian, it is another corrosion resistant knife.

In my tackle box I have a SAK and Mora. I alsways carry my mini multi tool on me. I find that takes care of 99% of any problem or situation I have encountered fishing. Pliers for removing hooks, scissors for cutting line, Mora for fillets.

These would be my first choices:

-Mora or other thin bladed Scandi with a stainless steel blade. Simple, utilitarian, very affordable.

-Spyderco Salt series. It's a pity that Spyderco only makes two fixed blades in H1 and they are both serrated sheepfoot designs (three if you count the Warrior, not a fishing knife for sure). If you don't mind serrations, then the H1 Enuff would work. Otherwise a Pacific Salt, although I'm not a fan of having a folder when I can have a fixed blade.

-G. Sakai makes a couple of fixed blades in H1 that would be very good fishing knives. The yellow Sabi Knife 6 is within your budget and quite nice, I'd take it over a Mora (just because it's cooler) and over the Spyderco Salt knives as well (it's cheaper than the fixed blades, has a plain edge).

20 bucks or less like new on the secondary market. All stainless.

another vote for Spyderco Salt series knives. I live close to beaches and my pacific salt is my choice for those outings. if you wanted to try cheaper things, you could always try the 420HC's of Gerber or Buck. For years and years I used a Gerber magnum LST and a Gerber Chameleon with zero maintainance other than rinsing them in fresh water and they didn't rust on me. Good Luck!

Another vote for a Spyderco knife with an H1 blade. They make several sizes, Ladybug, Dragonfly, etc. I had rust problems with the knife I kept on my keyring at work. Worked in a warehouse in up to 100 degree heat. My sweat did a number on several different knives. I went with a H1 ladybug and never looked back. The serated ones keep an edge much longer, something to do with the H1 metal getting work hardened.
